DCU Membership

I finally decided to join DCU for all of the wonderful benefits, etc. I applied a bit ago and received an instant Congratulations, Your membership accounts have been established! My question is, will I receive a confirmation email and how soon will I be able to log in? From my understanding, you have to wait on the mailings, correct? Also, how soon do the pre approvals happen (if eligible) for their CC's or do most cold app?

Congrats on joining. When I joined I received an email that gave instructions for applying for a loan and since that was my goal I contacted and applied for my auto loan and was also informed I was preapproved for a cc. You won't have any account access until they send your access number in the mail and I believe a temp password which comes separately I could be wrong about it coming separately though.

Awesome! Thanks for the information. Do you remember how fast you received the confirmation email? I'm not looking to apply for anything right now but would just like to know when to expect it!

I received mine the next morning because I applied late at night and my membership wasn't instant. I had to fax my id and the next morning they approved it.

Could definitely be the weekend. I know I had to receive something in the mail before I could get online. Also, with them being a credit union, I don't believe they do weekend processing. Great CU for an auto loan if you need one. I got a great rate from them thanks to these forums (otherwise would have never known they exist)!

I joined DCU by applying for the credit card, then getting the membership. For whatever reason, it took a little over 2 weeks to get the credit card and the membership number. Just chalked it up to that's how they do things but you can always call and ask for the status of your card and membership #. Good luck!

Thanks guys! I already received the membership number on the congratulations page and I didn't apply for anything further at this point. I just wanted to get it in case I need to use them in the future. I still haven't received the email but I am assuming it just takes time it it could be the weekend!

Credit uniions are great for the following reasons:

Great customer service.
Great rates

They are not so great for the following reasons:

You usually cannot pay loans from outside checking accounts
You usually cannot pay loans from outside credit cards

So, to pay loans you have to :

Go to a DCU branch
Keep enough money in your DCU Savings or Checking account to transfer your payment to your loan
Send a check in early enough to have it processed by the due date

DCU customer service agents are great. They gave me a great rate on my car loan. My only bad experience is that they lost a check I mailed them for a car payment, so I had to stop service on the check and pay them on the phone to avoid getting my credit hit.

The best way, of course, is to set up on automatic payment.

If you don't app for a loan or CC right off the bat, is there any credit pull to open checking/saving with DCU?

Down the line, if I were to apply for a car loan or the like, am I correct in recalling they often let you app for multiple things on one pull?

Yes they do a hard pull for savings /checking but I was told on the phone by them that they could use the same pull for up to 90 days for other products...... again I haven't tested the 90 day thing myself yet.

I applied to open a Savings acct Friday night and the system asked my to upload my drivers license. I did it right away. As of right now, the app status is "Sent for Review." I wonder why it takes so long?
