Welcome all new GCers, returning GCers

and old timers to our little island of

"No Credit Applications"!

What is gardening? Quite simply, it involves refraining from applying for new credit or seeking CLIs that require hard pulls. Soft pull CLIs, however, are not only acceptable, but are encouraged. The idea is to allow one's current trade lines to grow and mature, waiting for inquiries to age or fall off, and possibly waiting for "baddies" to be removed/age off. During this time, one tends to one's current accounts and watches their AAoA (average age of accounts) grow and the new credit ding fade. Here we socialize, commiserate and support each other while waiting for baddies to fall off, new accounts and/or inquiries to age or if we just want a place to hang out to get away from the hustle and bustle of credit card talk.

So, if you're at the stage of your credit journey where you're ready to enter the garden, please come and join us. You may pick up your complimentary watering can and garden gloves by the front door - you can even choose your favorite color! We're proud to offer a well-appointed clubhouse. There is a snack table set up. You'll always find camaraderie available here as you work towards your gardening goals.

Help yourself to our drinks and appetizers. Flat-breads, sliders, pizza, buffalo wings, grilled zucchini, kale salads, pecan and apple pie à la mode. There's also a nice selection of cold beers. Once again, please feel free to bring anything you'd like to add to the festivities. And, in the corner diagonally across from the front door, there is a fully stocked bar, along with a wide selection of soft drinks. If needed, there are some anti-itch medications stocked in our supply cabinet near the door - Lanacaine, Benadryl, etc. If you need to place your reports in the deep freeze, we also have a freezer, located next to the bar, so go ahead and throw your reports in!

So come on in and make yourself comfortable. Make a gardening plan and commit to sticking with it! Are you planning to wait six months before applying for additional credit? A year? Until the last of your baddies drop off? Whatever your goal, we're here to support you. If you feel the "app-itch" coming on, let us know and we'll try to help you through it.

Now, if you happen to leave the garden prematurely, that's your decision and we respect that. You are always welcome to come back, pick up your gardening tools and start over again. But please, celebrate any approvals and the discussion of which credit card to app for on another thread. While we are happy with members’ success stories, we really do want to keep this threads focus and tone to be consistent with gardening efforts. You are certainly welcome to celebrate SP CLIs in this thread, as they do not involve inquiries or apps for new credit.

GARDEN CLUB CHALLENGE AND RECOGNITIONS:

Garden Club Challenge: Pick a firm date for staying in the garden and post it in your siggy!

Garden Club recognition levels: To qualify, your reports must contain:

No new tradelines of any type on one's accounts (this includes any backdated accounts, as they are STILL new "seedlings").
No HPs for anything that would allow for the possibility of a new tradeline being issued or increasing the CL of an existing tradeline.

*The Garden Club community recognizes that certain inquiries are necessary for factors beyond those listed above. Therefore, Hard Pulls/Inquiries for the following bona fide reasons are exempt but not limited to: Opening checking/savings accounts (so long as no line of credit is being opened in addition to these accounts), employment applications, apartment rentals, utilities and other such services. These are not considered to be applications for credit per se.

Also, for those who are seeking a new mortgage or refinancing an existing one, we understand that your lender will pull your credit reports multiple times before closing. For those GC'ers, the first HP will set your clock, not the subsequent pulls. However, if you are simply rate shopping, then the normal HP rules apply.

You will be able to add the following to your siggy if you have been abiding by the above for the following time periods...

Less than 1 month - seedling
1 month - bronze spade
3 months - silver spade
6 months - gold spade
9 months - palladium spade
12 months - platinum spade
15 months - ruby
18 months - emerald
21 months - sapphire
24 months or more - diamond

We recognize that there may be very good reasons for "leaving the garden," and we respect whatever thoughtful decisions members make. Happy December guys and congrats on making it through the year! Credit goals for the most part have been met and expect next year to be real quiet as I let these HPs recover and accounts age. Trip at the end of this month to PV has finally arrived that I'm pretty excited about despite being there last year; it'll be nice being with an actual group and not just the three of us this time around. On personal side GF and I will start an excerise regime this Sunday/Monday and it's something she's set on both of us keeping on a consistent basis even during trips/vacations so this will be interesting we're still debating on morning/evening workouts so we'll see how that shakes out.

Happy holidays.

So many things happened with gardeners last month. I hope those who have been experiencing difficulties in life (whatever that may be) find peace and health soon!

Checking in for December, where I am going to be hunkering down in my little plot for the foreseeable future. I have no need for a new car, new house, or anything for which I would need financing. Of course, we all know what good intentions are good for, so while I have no intent to leave the garden any time soon, I’ll pass on setting a particular time period. After all, this isn’t jail.

After my [redacted] in November, I realize I am probably done with acquiring much more in the way of credit products. I really don’t need more credit (thanks, Chase, for that lesson), though it doesn’t mean I can’t shuffle lines around to best suit my spending.

I was thinking about getting rid of some cards, but they either have quite a bit of history or have some sort of useful benefit. I still get value from cards with AFs. For the most part, I am done with getting CLIs, and perhaps I might/should consider some CLDs. It might be worth considering for non AF cards that are SD’d, but there is no rush to make any decisions.

Anyways, I wish you all the best this holiday season. I doubt I will be able to keep up with the thread this month since I’m leaving the country for part of it.

Hello everyone, checking in for December!

The end of the year means parties, gift-giving, and for some, credit headaches. Well, you don't need a New Year's resolution to take care of your credit. You can do that every day hanging out in the garden and following the stories being told here. Half of the reason I've been here is to read up on how everybody is doing.

For those of you that don't know about me, I started my rebuild two years ago on the 9th with an application for an Amazon store card. Declined. Went and applied for a Capital One Platinum. Approved for $500. I was so happy to have that and was responsible with it. Then my baddies started to fall off and less than a year later, my scores went from mid 500's to low 700's.

When I came on to MyFico in March of 2017, I read some of the stories about how people were managing multiple cards with $20,000+ limits and thought how that must be difficult to handle. Well, now I'm in the same league as those folks and keeping up the payments without a problem. I've helped my wife get her credit in order, and while she's not as card crazy as I am, she manages what she has quite well.

Meanwhile, I got through the Thanksgiving holiday without a problem. My diabetes is well under control (no blood sugar tests over 100 in about three months). I did get a slight scare with my hernia last night however. I ordered the complete box set of Calvin and Hobbes and it was so heavy that thought it had come back for a second. It wasn't the case, but seriously, did they include an actual tiger in the box?

Anyway, that's all for now. Enjoy whatever holidays you celebrate, keep taking care of yourselves and your credit, and hope that you and your loved ones stay healthy, since that is far, far, far more important than any credit report.

Since we're on the cusp of a new calendar year, this will be the month I'll be taking a look at my credit and making adjustments & plans for 2019. I don't see myself closing any cards though. (There's nothing I can do about BLISPAY)

The end of December (usually the week between Christmas and New Year's Day) is usually my time to "reflect" as well.

So far I don't see any big adjustments that will need to be made; if I end up closing my BCP that will be in the summer since the AF is already paid until then. Other than that I don't see any changes... thing are rather boring, actually.

I have Blispay as well, but obviously it will work itself out.

Oh wow. Spectacular failure. I got distracted shopping for the kids and didn't realize over an hour had already gone by.

So I'm starting December with barely a seedling but I'm feeling pretty good at this point. When I stepped out last, I really stepped out, partially to just get it over with and not be tempted to do the same at the beginning of the year. Going to try my hardest not to get any new HPs to reset my gardening date, but I am reasonably confident that I certainly won't be getting any new tradelines for quite some time.

Like I said... things for me are rather boring these days.

After my Amex installment loan was PIF I lost 40 points, but after that things have been steady... I've been within a point or two of 780 since August. My score was previously 821 with the low-balance installment loan reporting.

I could do the SSL and get the points back, but there's nothing I'm interested in at the moment so there's no need for the exercise.

A few years ago I would have loved to have been 'stuck' with a 780, so I'm not complaining.
