I have an iphone and was looking at apple pay because it was mentioned when I was looking at my amex account. Does anyone use this? is it worth it? It does not seem like a big deal for me to just pull out my credit card and swipe, but maybe I am missing something. Is there another benefit to using it other than not having to carry the physical card?

I dont see the big time saver or convenience personally. Not a big deal to just swipe your card.

Also. Even if you switch, you still should carry the physical card for backup. Not nearly everyone takes apple pay.

Apple Pay doesn't use your real account number so there's no risk of somebody getting your card number. When you swipe there is always that risk. Applie pay is much more secure.

I use mine fairly often. I run across a lot of places in los angeles that accept contactless payment. Its been useful a few times where I've shopped at a place where I could earn a better bonus/reward with a card I didn't physically have on me but was in my passbook. I wish they allowed more than 8 cards, they need to expand that ASAP.

I would add all Amex cards you have to apple pay even if you don't plan on using them. The reason being Amex sends you instant push notifications even when you don't use apple pay to make the purchase. This is a good way to keep track of spending and monitor fraud. I wish other banks would implement this feature.

I love ApplePay. My iPhone has almost replaced my wallet as well as completely replaced the need to carry keys for my home.

ApplePay in my opinion is more convinient than having to pull out my wallet considering I am generally carrying my phone in my hand responding to text/emails. Also, it is highly likely that I will leave my wallet at home before my phone.

Also, as mentioned previously - the account number assigned to your device is different vs. your phsyical card so there is an added level of security.

Amex sends you instant push notifications even when you don't use apple pay to make the purchase. This is a good way to keep track of spending and monitor fraud. I wish other banks would implement this feature.

THIS! +100

I love that about my Amex cards and Apple Pay. My daily driver is my Venture though, and even though CapOne's app will give you the same notifications...I would love if it was all in one place (Passbook).

I use it. Not to replace my credit cards but as a backup just in case.

For example, if you want to go running, and you have your iPhone with you (for tracking distance, music) but no wallet. And you stop by a store to pick up something. No wallet, no problem. Now you can pay with your phone.

Or if you only carry 3 cards in your wallet, and you want to use that other card that gives your 5% back. If that 5% card is in your phone, then voila!

It's just finding a place that actually has Apple Pay is the problem for me.

Plenty of places don't take it.

What's the difference really between carrying a phone and a wallet? Yes for the niche example you provided, if one is a runner and not carrying their wallet, ok...but your phone is far more likely to be damaged while running vs a wallet. So what's the better thing to be carrying in that situation?
