Alliant Checking Account - Update

Yesterday I applied for a checking account through alliant. I had already joined the CU last month and have an active savings account. Unfortunately I received an email today from Alliant requesting me to unfreeze my EQ. I was just about ready to fall in love with Alliant I would have understood had they wanted to do a HP when I joined the CU, but they did a SP for that.

Anyways, I told them there was no way I was willing to unfreeze my EQ for a checking account, but they can feel free to do a SP...lol We shall see what comes of this. Most likely I will be SOL. I just wanted make people aware of this practice of theirs, and also to emphasize the importance of freezing your reports. I would have been super disappointed had i received a HP for this.

UPDATE: I over reacted. I received an email from them today, letting me know it is a SP, they just cannot SP with my report frozen.

Second Update:

I thought I would update this thread again. I had to unfreeze my EQ on 6/29, so I decided I would call alliant and see if I could open the account now. They still had my first application in the system, and were able to use that to approve me while I was on the phone. I also wanted to note that I just received a $50 bonus! I didn't realize they had a promotion going on..so that was a nice surprise

Yah that is what I saw most people reporting. I am not sure, maybe I don't properly understand how credit freezes work. I have been thinking about it this morning. When I joined alliant my Credit report was unfrozen and they did perform a soft pull. Would it be possible that they cannot perform a soft pull with my credit frozen? I was reading up on freezes on EQ/TU/EX and they state that your current creditors can still access your report. So if alliant only over SP'd, and I have no credit accounts with them, would the CRA's consider them a current creditor? Or does it only consider an institution a current creditor if they are listed on your report as a trade line? If that is the case, maybe alliant was trying to do a SP but wasn't able? So confusing...lol!!

Well I know Alliant will not pull thru a freeze for an app. They may can like others for an Account Review. But, not for a application.

I opened mine a month ago and it was SP from EQ. They specifically mentioned that they only do SP when opening up account on their website, under High Rate checking FAQs.

I believe as long as you initially granted access to a current lender to pull your credit, when it is frozen, they can still SP your accounts. I'm not certain on this by the way, but thought I've read this before.

That is what I had though as well. It does not appear to be the case though.

You've not seen the half of it yet.

They are an outstanding Credit Union with simply remarkable customer service as well as very competitive products and terms!
