Sorry for your experience. I have loved MACU, although I don't use any of their credit products. Their credit cards are pretty meh but they do have pretty good loan rates. I like having a brick and morter branch for the occassional cash deposits.

I would suggest that once you get your ChexSystem reports that you try recon. MACU customer support is really good. It could be that all three of your Chex inquiries are within 6 months and maybe that is a break point for MACU. Call and see what their standard is. You might be eligible as soon as some get past the 6 month period.

MACU chex sensitive?

So I was high on my NFCU CC approval last Friday and thought, since I have my reports thawed anyways and am leaving the garden why not risk a hard pull to join a local credit union while I'm at it.

I closed my WF checking several months ago and I haven't figured out the shared branching thing yet (I tried a CO-OP ATM deposit once but it wouldn't go through). Not that I need a brick and mortar option that often since I rarely use cash these days.

Of the two big credit unions in Utah I wanted MACU over AFCU because of Zelle and eligiblity through my employer.

So I drove to the nearest MACU branch just down the street, waited about 30 minutes, and sat with a member specialist for nearly an hour.
They asked for DL, SS card, soft pulled EX, and I had to jump through a couple hoops for fraud alert on my reports. He asked who I banked with and why I wanted to open an account with them. I said I do most of my banking with NFCU but since the nearest branch is 2+ hours away I wanted something more local. He proceded to give me a rundown on all the products they offer. Their customer service was great and I was starting to get my hopes up.

Then, he says he's having trouble opening the account and had to check with his manager. He came back and said I was denied membership due to ChexSystems. I just pulled Chex report in February. 2 inquiries from Discover and 1 inquiry from Alliant all 6 months ago. It was good enough to be approved for BECU membership (reportedly Chex sensitive) at the beginning of March, who I assume added another inquiry. No other negatives on Chex that I know of. I'll be ordering a fresh report just to be sure.

In the end it's not a huge deal for me. I already have shared branching through DCU and BECU. Also, I will likely move away from Utah within the next year.
