Hi, maybe this belongs in applications. sorry. hypothetical question: as some background, an individual has both NFCU and Penfed credit cards. both cards are $ 25K and both see very little use, only a few bucks each year to keep them open. NFCU has a checking account, Penfed does not. both accounts were opened in 6/2016. Penfed also services an auto loan for $75k that started in 10/2016. Fico is 850 3x.

Individual has no use for a CLOC other than as an emergency fund and to back up auto-pay on cards. OOPS from NFCU is a little random for auto-pay use, they pay at their discretion where it would seem a CLOC would be more reliable for this purpose. based on these facts which lender would the applicant have been luck with obtaining a CLOC with and is there an advantage of one lender over another? APR is probably moot as this is for emergencies only and anywhere from $5-15K would be sufficient. Insights and opinions always welcome. Thank you

I only have NFCU, not Penfed. But I can tell you they gave me a 5k CLOC a day after I joined them with credit scores in the mid 600s. Their max is 15k which you should have no problem obtaining based on your credit scores and your income (which I assume is much, much, much higher than mine based on your auto loan).

I'd also say, just based on general knowledge, it'd be more in your favor to go with NFCU since you already have a large exposure with PenFed.

NFCU Cloc 15k, just a better experience and probably easier to get for said friend. Imo

Another solid vote for NFCU!!!!!!

I had an OOPs on my secondary checking account with NFCU and when I applied for the CLOC, CSR told me the OOPs had to be removed. I said OK and got approved for $14K at 13.25%. I already have a $1K CLOC on my primary checking account. They also sent checks for the the secondary checking account.

And as others have said, the max CLOC is $15K.

Thanks for the comments all, another idea came to mind; banc of california. they are a small boutique kind of operation and have no fee consumer and business checking so I am thinking if they have a no or low fee credit line that mates to a checking account and does not report that will do the trick nicely. would much prefer an instrument that does not report. just waiting for a call-back...
