Anyone ever buy used from Enterprise?

If youve bought a used car from Enterprise could you PM me? I have a few questions. WOuld it be wise to do so? I have spoken to the manager who gaurentees all cars are "certified pre-owned"...how is this true if its rental cars they are selling?!

I would approach it from the same perspective as if purchasing from an individual. Rental companies will vary widely in terms of how they treat their cars, both with regular and unscheduled maintenance. Honestly, some rental cars are just trashed; some are nice.

Do they have maintenance records available ? Is there a Carfax or similar report for you to see ? What work has been done whilst the car was under warranty ?

Also if it is being advertised as still being under the manufacturer's warranty, you should double check to verify that the previous use as daily rental did not invalidate or discontinue the warranty.

If they offer you an extended warrantly, consider shopping around to get several quotes on it.

Thanks for the tips pizzadude.

He assured me that each car goes through thorough inspection, and yes- they have carfax available too! I know that people tend to dog rentals, thats why I was leary...I guess it doesnt hurt to go check them out when Im ready.

They also finance, so Im wondering what that is going to be like...we shall see!

I'm sure that they do inspect the cars ~ but they should also have all of the maintenance records for you to review, especially if they advertise it as "certified" which is usually what that means.

Is their financing in house or do they just shotgun your application to their financiers ? Might want to ask them so that you don't get surprised with a boatload of inquiries.

Thanks for the heads up! This is my first car loan so I need all the info I can get. I didint even realize there was a difference between in house and different financing!

Yeah, most auto dealers will use 5, 10 or more different lenders to try to get you approved at the best rates. This will usually result in a large number of inquiries, 5, 10 or more on your CRs. IF the inquiries are coded correctly as AUTO, which usually happens, then FICO only scores them as a single inquiry.

I'm pretty sure that Enterprise doesn't have in~house financing, since they are a car rental company.....So what I would recommend is first going to a local bank or credit union to see what rates & terms they can offer you. Then you can decide if you want Enterprise to run your credit to see if they can get you a better deal.

Ok.

I am now actually between a Kia dealership and Enterprise! IDK what to do! Obviously I want the best deal, with the least inquiries- but Kia doesnt do in house financing either

I am part of a credit union, but I am nervous for them to pull anything for me! I think I would be denied and waste a perfectly good inquiry!

Well, you're going to have to start somewhere - if you don't want your CU pulling your credit, try talking with them about your credit, maybe bring your own copy of your CR and let them take a look. They should be able to give you an idea of where you stand based on your scores ( assuming that you know what they are ) and your report.

My very first car was a Hertz rental car in its previous life before I bought it as a college student... great car 2001 mazda 626, paid 11k for it, drove it 6 yrs... wish i still had it...

Over the past few years we rent at least 4-5 weeks per year on average with Enterprise and they really like to push their sales. Christmas week our aging minivan broke down and we were able to get a Suburban rental from them for a week. It was a great ride and we didn't want to return it. We shared our experience and they offered to sell it to us on the spot. The clerk said they were taking out of rotation to upgrade their inventory. I don't know if he was inflating their demand, but he said many of their vehicles sell within days of listing them. I personally wouldn't buy from them (or any rental company) because I don't treat my rentals with the same care and concern as if it were my own. I'll floor it, abuse it, break it in, and so forth. BUT, I always rent the car I'm interested in before purchasing it from a dealer. A 30 minute test drive isn't the same as a week-long test drive from a car rental place. In fact, we bought our two cars, a Saturn and a Town&Country, because we rented the same model and fell in love with it.

Thats a very good idea. I have my heart set on a Chevy Malibu LT...shes SWEEEEEET...!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's funny - the first vehicle we purchased in the US was a Mercury Mountaineer. Now guess what car we got as rental at the Airport the day we came to the US?
