Need a NFCU Sponsor!

Anyone have any ideas? I have family members in the military but I am not close with any and them and none have NFCU accounts.

To the best of my knowledge, NFCU will not accept sponsored members for membership. You have to meet the military requirements or be employed by a Navy contractor.

I am an NFCU member and nearly never use them. Rates are low and there are better CUs out there. NFCU is only a 3 star piggy bank at Bankrate. Probably cause our Sailors spend all their money on SUVs and other toys these days. (unlike the past, when paid far less)

In choosing a credit union, look for those with really big companies or government employees.

These will have the largest deposits, be most stable and offer the lowest interest rates on loans and highest payout on savings.

The only way I can see to sponsor someone you are not related to is to let them move in with you.

If I ever need to rent out a room, I'll advertise that it comes with NFCU membership

UPDATE:

Ok, So I told a little fib-- that I was on detail for DOD (I am a federal employee)-- and the rep, whom I suspect knew I was fibbing, let me thru. They deducted the initial deposit and sent me my check card/account info yesterday. Someone with more scruples than I will have to find a sponsor.

Oh and btw-- I have two grandfathers who've given years of their life in service to this country, one of them dead and buried at Arlington National (along with my grandmother). So I don't feel so guilty.

My father, both uncles, and both grandfathers all served in various wars -- my father was in the Pacific Theater of World War Two. I'm purely a civilian and realize how fortunate I am. During one recent election my father got so mad that the military record of one candidate (whom I won't name so as to avoid violating TOS) was being attacked that for the first time in memory he got a "Veterans for [name]" bumper sticked -- usually it's not his style to make noise about being a veteran though he certainly is one. I've heard lots of stories, he grew up in a tiny Wisconsin farming community so MANY times came as major shocks to him.

Now that's what I call a military family!

I meant no disrepsect to anyone with relatives in the military (I'm sure most of us have relatives in the military) but as far as my little fib is concerned, the level of guilt is minimal.

You do not need to be in the military or be married to somebody in the military.....you just have to know somebody who has an account with NFCU. My Dad, who works for a defense contractor, is a member of NFCU. He asked me if I wanted to join and all I had to do is fill out a card and deposit $5.00. NFCU is by far one of the best CU to join. Their auto loans are great....you pick the vehicle and options, you get approved and pay $500.00 over invoice, they find the vehicle, you go pick up the vehicle. It's great!

Your dad is a family member.

Just knowing someone in NFCU is not enough to get you in.

A better way to put it would be "have to have a family member in NFCU".
