Infiniti QX60 Good Price or Keep Looking?

So, I decided this week I was going to look for a new vehicle. I initially was going to wait until September but now I need on right away. I went to the Infiniti dealership and was given an offer for a 2015 Infiniti QX60 base model, certified pre-owned with 21,000 miles on it. The price to walk out the door was $40,000. What do you think? Oh Carfax, report, of course was one owner, it was used by a car rental agency. So, what do you think?

I'd shop around a bit more as a new model, never driven starts at $44,795. This has $21,000 already on it and giving it you at $40,000 is a bit expensive in my opinion. I'd shop around a bit.

If its one of those deals where you get every warranty a new car would get and an extended maintenance warranty id say thats not a bad deal, if you never plan to re sell it.

If you plan to resell within a couple of years, not worth it at all.

Id keep looking, thats alot of miles on a new car. (There is a stigma of bad cars coming from rental agencies but thats way too dependent on which specific location was taking care of it) If the car isnt in major demand to be seen right now, maybe you have some more time to shop around and think about it.

ive always been of the mind, if I was going to get a new car, it was going to be a NEW car. If I want used, I would go the not brand new, used route.

Just my opinion. Why pay new prices on something thats WELL used.

i agree with the other posts that suv is new for 43k so your not saving very much money buying used.... most used interest rates are higher then buying new... that may make the car more than a new one.... Maybe shop new??

I also know what I have done to rental cars while I was in my younger years... I would never but a rental.. I was always curious what happens when you go x miles per hour and put it into park and stuff like that.. Keep in mind I am alot older now, but anyways, just a perspective of things that it could have experienced

Also as others stated not saving much money off a new one with 21k miles as well.

Like others stated, if it has a warranty like most do now, you would be walking into probably half left on it. And with those cars, it is expensive to have anything done to them. That was my deciding factor when purchasing my BMW. I don't have to pay for anything for 4 yrs/40,000 miles. Going for an expensive oil change tomorrow.

That price sounds too high to me. I always figure the first 20K to 30K miles on any car are the cheapest ones for me, since very little needs to be done in terms of maintenance, other than oil changes. No tires, no brakes, no transmission PM; typically no wear-and-tear items go bad in those first miles. Every mile after that will cost more - and sometimes MUCH more. So unless a used vehicle has a per-mile (raw depreciation, not including anything except change in value of the vehicle itself) savings that is pretty substantial, I wouldn't even consider it.

FWIW, Truecar provides an estimate of $40,929 in my zip code for a NEW 2015 and KBB provides a range from $38,966 to $41,079 with $40,023 for a fair purchase price. Unless your taxes on a new vehicle are uber-high, I don't really think $40k OTD with 21K miles is much of a deal. Even if taxes, etc. were 10% - which might be be WAY high - you'd be talking $36.4k base price. That is only $3.4 less than new and that equates to 16 cents per mile for those first "free miles". Not good, IMO. Overall lifetime miles assuming you get $150k out of the vehicle would run you about 27 cents per mile. Thus, your 21K should really save you AT LEAST $5600 (and even then, it doesn't reimburse you for the fact that those miles come at a lower cost than later ones).

And holy moly, have you looked into insurance on that thing?! I've got two cars insured for what it was showing me for that one vehicle. Make sure you look into that before you decide to do anything (it was showing me $172 per month just for insurance!).

You can work your way up to cheaper insurance. Just keep upgrading what you have every six months. I have 300/300 (not on a lease) & pay 560.00 every 6 months for my Bimmer with the lowest deductible.
