I have been in the market for a few years now to purchase a car such as the BMW i8. I am unsure if i would try to buy it new or used yet and if it would be better to buy or lease? I am was curious if anyone had any insight of how much they would be looking for me to show as far as income to be approved for the car? Does anyone know what credit they pull? I make about 150k a year. Would that be enough? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

The income will be after tax income since you can't deduct car loan interests. The debts include your mortgage, credit payment, other loan payments, child support etc. Not sure about the ratio. But I imagine 50% would be good. With your income, and if little debts, then I don't see any problem.

Lenders look at your Debt to Income ratio and your credit to determine how much you can afford. Gross income is used, not net income.

A more detailed explanation is here: (see post 2) http://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/Auto-Loans/Guide-to-Financing-Leasing-and-Refinancing-a-Car/td-p/2898720

I am not a fan of leasing at all - except in some very limited circumstances. If you want a BMW i8, then go in prepared with your own financing from a CU or bank. JMO.
