DISCHARGED TODAY!!

We got our discharge today June 18th!!!! YAY!!! We filed on March 7th, 341 April 16th.

Looking back the absolute worst part of this entire journey (retained our attorney Aug. 2017) was THE TIME PERIOD before getting the attorney and the year and a half of not being able to AFFORD the attorney and not being able to file. We had a MAJOR JOB LOSS followed by another some what major job loss and I would say 2016/2017 and part of 2018 WERE HORRIBLE. Actually filing, the 341 meeting and the waiting to be discharged was the EASIEST part for us. Now don't get me wrong....the paperwork side of it was a pain in the butt to get ready, but finally getting to that point was a HUGE WEIGHT off our shoulders.

The biggest mistake we made was TRYING TO KEEP THINGS AFLOAT during these years of hardship. We should have filed in 2016. We made a lot of stupid mistakes. We tried paying it all and got behind on our mortgage. Tried to do payment plans with mortgage to catch up and never could. We didn't want to STOP paying on our credit card bills and other bills so we just jacked our finances up big time. WE took out money from my husband's thrift savings retirement account and got hit with HUGE penalties at tax time and we are STILL PAYING THAT OFF. We caught up the mortgage the 3rd time we withdrew money (yes 3 times we were idiots). Just a lot of stupid panicky moves on our part.

SO...if you are reading this and you are trying to keep it all together by trying to pay credit cards...STOP....just file and be done with it. Don't make the mistakes we did. IT cost us far more THAN FILING BANKRUPTCY.

We still have a long way to go. We stopped paying our creditors in Sept. 2017 after retaining our attorney. So we have NOT been paying them so we will not see this HUGE influx of money now that we are discharged. We still have parent plus loans out the butt (that we have had on hold for over two years) to pay and back taxes.

We have survived without using credit since Sept. 2017 and we did just that.... SURVIVE. IT can be done. However I am looking forward to the rebuild.

Congrats and good luck going forward. I agree.....we were in a situation much like yours, no job loss, just amassing a ton of debt. Every penny I earned went to paying credit card and medical debt. We even received a small inheritance (35K) and all of that went to pay down debt. Soon after with interest it was back. I too took out a $10k loan from 401K to slow the bleeding. Filed BK and have never looked back.

Congrats! Wait up to 30 days for everything to update. Get your reports and make sure everyone followed the rules and all your accounts say IIB and 0 balance. Watch for a score rise once all is listed correctly. Let the rebuild begin.

Don you remember the tentative discharge date you were given? We filed 3/14 and had MOC 4/19. It says discharge 07/05 but wondering if it will be done sooner since we have the same timeframes as you.

I think it was some day this week actually. So day 60 was the 15th I believe and we got the discharge on the 18th.
