Post Discharge - SMALL Auto Loan

Hello fellow credit builders,

I'm currently waiting to receive my discharge any day now. However something I haven't found any info on is getting a small auto loan immediately after discharge. I do not have a car right now and it's been difficult to maintain my job that way in a city with POOR public transport (Miami).

I need a car and I'm looking to get a used one for around 5-8K. I have about $1-2k set aside for down payment but the rest I'd need a loan for. Is it possible to get a loan for that 5-8K amount right after discharge? Only banks I burned were Capital One and Synchrony Bank and my expenses are relatively low.

Open to absolutely ANY tips or suggestions for this situation!

From what I've read on here, you should have no problem getting an auto loan if you're post discharge. Good luck.

Good luck, it's a mixed bag out there. Hopefully you can get an approval, let us know! I can tell you up here in Michigan where I'm at, every lender I have spoken with will not even look at you until you are 8-10 years post bankruptcy.

You should be able to get a small loan for an auto. If you have banked somewhere for awhile try with them or a local credit union.

This is unfortunately a tough one. I highly respect that you don't want a big auto obligation, but the problem is that cars in this price are generally too old or have too many miles on them to obtain financing.

I know it's tough with no car, but if you can scrape by just until you get another $1-$2k you can buy something decent for cash. Just be sure to have a mechanic check it out first.
