So I filed chapter 13 back in June of 2017. I was notified by my attorney that I will be discharged in May!!! I was in a really bad situation when I filed (as you can tell from my first post) and things have certainly taken a turn for the better since filing. I was able to get a better job and my income has tripled since I last posted on this forum. I have been able to obtain a secure credit card with a $300 limit while in my plan. I also have been paying on a furniture loan for a bed that I purchased this year. I obtained another secure card with no limit that I add the funds to and use it responsibly. My scores when I first filed were in the 400s. My current scores are 605EX/609Trans/611Equ. I'm excited about coming out of this debt free, but my 2002 Nissan Altima is starting to give me a lot of issues and I'm worried that I will be forced to look for an auto loan sooner than I planned. My question is.. will my score increase at all after the discharge his my credit? Do you think I will be able to get approved for an auto loan within two months of discharge without a ridiculous interest rate? Being forced into this years ago scared me! I am terrified of falling back into debt. I want to be able to purchase my first home within the next two years and have already started saving for the down payment. Any advice you guys can offer is greatly appreciated@!!

Before I filled chapter 7 which happened in Dec 2020, I needed to replace my card at the time (out of warranty, started having issues and 17% APR. I got that car when my credit was terrible. I decided to go to a delarship I knew that works with people with bad credit. My ex husband got a brand new car from them with $0 down and bad credit financed thou a credit union.

I was there a good chunk of the day and I was about to walk out on them twice but it was absoluetely worth it. I got a SUV with 11k miles, 10 year bumper to bumper warranty at 5.7% thou Wells Fargo.

After much back and forth they ended up giving me the rate the dealer gives their imployees, it took some management approvals but after spending that much time with me they did not want to lose the deal.

At the time my scores were around 608 or something like that.

What I learned here is, make them work for you lol

And this was not hole on the wall dealer, it's actually one of the biggest dealers around here. Granted, not every dealer will do this but they can. I knew that if they could let my ex drive out with a brand new car, no money down and bad credit they definetely could help me too.

Thank you for your reply! I thought about trying to get financing on my own before going into a dealer, but this might be worth a shot.

Auto and Mortgage plans... start building your relationship with 2-3 Credit Unions now.

Where I used to live, I belonged to 3. Yes. Don't laugh. Not all offered the sane services. One had a terrific Auto Buying plan where they did a complete negotiation. I just paid. They both had better prices and access. I wanted what turned out to be a challenging combination to get. They had it at the best price for me without charging me to get it from hundreds of miles away.

They also typically have terrific auto loans. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 Check out at least 5-10 CU's. Consider joining 2-3.
