Still blacklisted from Capital One after 5 years!

I filed CH 7 in feb 2018 it was discharged in May. I get offers from Capital One in the mail, but when I use the prequalify tool I always get this message - "we've observed activity on a prior capital one account, that isn't consistent with our expectations..."

The card I had was discharged for about $400. I even tried to call and pay what was discharged and was told I couldn’t do that. Anyone else have this happen? And how long until you got back in with them? Is there anything else that I can do because been almost 5 years! or should i

i would just start tossing the offers in the garbage and forget about Cap1 - they are not anything really special

there are so many other lenders/CCs you can persue instead

Keep waiting. I included Cap One in my Feb 2017 Ch 13 and they just opened the door for me in January... nearly 6 years later with a $500 QS card. It's not much... but it's a CB card with no AF so I'm pretty happy with it.

I don't much care about the account but I'm going to use it a lot... hope for a CLI down the road... and later on (in 2024 when my reports are clean) apply for their better cards. I had a $10k Venture previously along with some other high limit cards.

Things are tightening up with CO's, Repo's, forclosures, auto loans, ect on the rise. Might be the new no soup for you comment.

That's really odd considering this forum is loaded with people getting right back in with Cap one me included. I believe I got back in after Including them in bk in less then a year

Yes, but on the other hand, as @FireMedic1 mentions, things are tightening up it seems. In 2014 I was just a few days post discharge and Cap 1 let me back in. I burned them. Internal policies change and they may be adjusting to the current environment.

This. No way I would sweat not getting back in with them right now. I definitely consider the other comments about things getting more stringent by lenders as correct. The roller coaster ride is about to pick up speed and get bumpy with all that seems to be happening. Fed comments, Markets last week after and SVB anyone?

Given the current financial environment, it's sounds like CapitalOne has tightened their underwriting requirements. To be honest, I wouldn't worry about it, because there are other lenders out there.

If it makes you feel any better, I didn't get back into Chase's good graces until my bankruptcy fell off my CR's.

Hang in there! You will find some great approvals soon.

It appears Capital one no longer wants to take risk with people who previously filed bankruptcy. I have two cards directly with them that have a $3600 and $600. Now when I tried to get a CLI the only reason is due to bankruptcy which they never used since I was discharged in 2020.

Certainly I think we're in a different environment today than just a few months ago but my 13 was discharged on 12/28/22 - on 1/2/23 CO approved me for a QS with a $10K limit (too early to try for a CLI so perhaps I'm stuck at $10K but I'd be fine with that)

That's what AmEx does to me... refuses to give me a CLI on my card... citing "your credit report reflects a bankruptcy." They were not included.

The SL was $10k though so I'm fine with waiting till my reports go clean later this year before getting a CLI.

They certainly could be - I'd love to have one of AmEx's Bonvoy card but I IIB'd them for 5 digits in my 13 so they'll probably never talk to me again (except to say they'd consider rebuilding our relationship if I voluntarily cut them a large check with 5 digits)

Very Strange they have you listed that way...sorry to hear that. I applied even before I received my discharge and they gave me a $4000 limit with Quicksilver, after sending them an assortment of documents they were requesting, DL, Passport, 3 months of bank statements, a phone bill, and a copy of my SS card, and proof of my business (self employed). Then I got an approval email shortly after. I even applied for the Mission Lane with a $1000 limit and then shortly following that I applied for the Credit One with a pre-approval of $2500, but waiting for them to finish processing. I wont be applying for anthing else as its exactly what I wanted post bankruptcy and more then enough for me in regular day to day needs. The only reason I was hesitant to originally apply was everything I read about banks not approving you until the discharge was issued... but I didnt have that experience at all. I believe I'm supposed to recieve my discharge in the next 30 days.

Have you tried opening up a secured credit card with them? I discharged Capital One credit cards in ch 7 bankruptcy in 2016. I think within maybe 6 mths or a year I opened up a secured credit card (Quicksilver One) and then it graduated to an unsecured credit card. Now I get Wells Fargo to open an unsecured credit card for 3k. Venmo opened an unsecured credit card for 6k. Try to open a secured credit card. Ironically, I included Wells Fargo into my bankruptcy and just last week I was approved for the active cash card for 3,000! My bankruptcy doesn't come off until 2026 and they still approved it! I've kept a pretty clean record ever since.

It could be as mentioned upthread that our current credit environment has lenders tightening up. In my case I burned cap 1 for 5k in a bk7 dc 12/2019. then in may/2021 cap 1 gave me an unsecured platinum with a 300 dollar sl.

Today I have a 5k QS, 3100 savor one, and a 3k cap 1 kohls - total - 11,100 unsecured in a fairly short time with income only in the 30's

I have read lots of stories of people getting in quicker after bk with cap 1 and some with higher limits.

IMHO I think its something else besides the bk on your reports they dislike, I could be wrong.

It seems the cap 1 computer will spit out any reason to deny an approval or cli even if the reason doesnt apply in reality.

Anyway good luck to you and eventually you will get in.

There must be something on your file they don't like. I burned Cap One with my bk7 three years ago for almost $30,000. I was just approved for Savor card with $10,000 credit limit.
