Secured Card Prior to Filing Ch 13

Hello,

I have not filed ch 13 yet, but I talked to my lawyer and he said I could a secured card for traveling. So I applied for US Bank secured now. I am going to file ch 13 in Feb 2025.

Assuming I get approved and use the card now and never carry a balance AND when I file the ch 13 case and that balance is 0.00 for sure, will US bank still close that account or possibly not ?

Personally, I would wait until after you file and that's if you're even allowed to obtain credit cards while in 13. Lawyer knows better than I would.

I had a secured US Bank card when I filed. The card was closed.

The balance was 0. I never used the card in the 3 years I had it. Just paid my annual fee.

If you're just concerned about reestablishing credit after you file, just have a trusted friend or family member add you as an authorized user to their card and then have that card sockdrawered.

Thanks for all the replies. Well I will roll the dice if they close the card when I file I will see if they will reopen within 30 days if not I will get an open sky secured. I know the bk will tank my credit but I will be keeping my car which is paid on time for two years and I am current on everything r and will be when I file. So hopefully the fact that I have my open current car loan will help me a bit.
