Bp fuel card asking for my ss#?

Hello everyone love the forum. I have a fuelman CC with a 1k SL. I didnt need my ss# for the approval. I recently inquired with BP and Fleetusa about a business fleet card and they want my ss#. They said they are not using it to check my credit or for a PG they just need it on file. They said it's a recorded line I guess to prove they wouldnt lie and they said if they needed a PG I would have to fill out different paper work. I told them I would call back. Does this sound right? Thanks

From what I was told by BP was that they have to supply the SS# to the Feds. when they extend credit. That that is all it is for. The SS# is their proof of who they are extending credit to. (That's what I was told)

My understanding is that this is for Patriot Act requirements. I've gotten multiple accounts over the past year that were no PG and no pull on personal credit but did require my DOB, SSN and name address.

Ok makes sense. My fear was that they would run my credit and I wouldn't have any recourse since I provided my ss#. From what I read the consensus is to not provide the ss# but I understand the reasoning thanks

(This is with BP Fuel card....they all may be the same entity though, not positive. ie. arco and the likes) We did it without providing SS# on application; then they called to fill out the rest of the app. I told them "NO PG" or nevermind and still didn't give SS#. So they said we will get back to you in 2 days. Got an email the next day- approved.

Then after app. had been run, approved, cards assigned- that's when CSR said they had to supply SS# for the "Patriot Act". That was 3 days ago, nothing has snuck onto personal reports so far. Plus they are locked. So lock your reports after they say your app. is approved but before giving SS#.

P.S. Make sure your fuel station is IN NETWORK. I found out after the fact that ours is not.....$2/per fill if out of network. Check the Terms and Conditions.

When is the best time to apply for fuel cards?

I just opened 6 new accts yesterday and were approved for all 6

Quill, ULine, Fedex, Supply Works, MSC, Demco.

I live in Dallas Texas(oil capital of the country) and there aren't any Bps near me go figure but I use gas regularly of course so and oil card that reports would make the most sense.

I got the same thing on a "LLC" 76 Gas Card. All I did was provide SS#

This is true. The feds amended/clarified/whatever to the US patroit act and it requires during the application to disclose those who have 25% or more ownership AND managing directors for DOB, SSN and home address.

This information is also required when opening up a credit card processing account, and many loans. If your terms are with someone like Uline where it is soley b2B, they do not seem to ask for it. But when you are applying for a product from a Bank (Fuel cards, Citi business cards [staples, office depot, exxon, shell, etc], Syncrhony [Amazon, Lowes]) then they re required by law to ask this and report it back. similarly, these same banks are going back through to ask for the information for compliance purposes, assuming they have not verified the information from some other means.

IF you do not believe me, go look at the CitI staples net terms app. You can hit NO for the PG, but you still have to enter in the above information in.

In business credit, you need to read the terms extremely carefully to determine if by providing your SSN, if you are agreeing to be jointly held liable for the debt or not, or if it is being used for identity verification purposes. Some T&C's like Valero are unclear and you have to inquire for the intent.

but remember, your being issued a credit card and not just a charge account at an individual vendor.
