What's your Discover Credit Line?

Just curious. I've heard that Discover is stingy with handing out high limits.

I got my Discover More this September, and they gave me $3500. A bit stingy as my other cards are all between $7k and $12k. When the nice lady on the phone verified some information she asked if that was high enough. I was afraid to ask for more and said it was ok. Maybe I should have been bold and requested more?

Anyway, I only spend about $200 to $600 on it per month, so the line of credit is completely sufficient. I hope though that they will raise it in the future. I've read on here that when people redeem $50 of their cashback for statement credit, this will often trigger a credit line increase.

So, what was the limit of your Discover when you got it? And, has it been increased (or even decreased) ever since?

I got mine in 2003 and don't recall what the initial CL was. Until this year it seems like I got an auto CLI of about $1,000 each year but nothing yet so far for 2010.

Right now the CL is $13,300. I will have put right at $30,000 through it by the end of December but I can't recall the last time I paid them any interest and that might be why no CLI. I don't know.

Just recieved my Discover More card last month, and you are doing better than me, my cl is only $3,000.00. When I spoke to the rep who verified some information when I did my online app I was bold enough to ask for a higher limit and stating I had other cards with higher credit limits, but he mentioned since I am a new cardholder Discover wants to see some payment history and I would be able to ask for a cli, although I don't seem to recall the time frame of when to ask, I am just going to wait six months from now and see what happens hopefully it is automatic as I have heard of hard pulls with customer related requests for cli's.

2k >>> 4k after circa 20 mos. by request HP on TU. Still one of bottom 3 CLs.

They are v. conserv with CL/CLI in general but it is possible to get up to 12ish without too much hassle/ docs requests, etc.

Wow. Looking at everyone's CL, I guess I'm pretty lucky. My Discover CL is $15,500. I opened it when they were new in 1986.

My Discover Cashback Bonus was issued Sept 2009 with $15,000.

Is this a typo? Do you mean the CB total is $15,000 or your CB was based on charges of $15,000?

If your CB was this much what was your total amount of charges?

I think tiger67 meant "Discover Cashback Bonus" as in the card itself (the same words are on the card proper). At any rate, nice starting credit line of $15k. Do you have a long history, strong scores, and/or a high income?

My discover card has a cl of about $5k. I opened it about 10 years ago. Had the cl up to $21k but they cut me down last december when I shot up to over 90% util on all my cards.

I got my Discover More this year and was given $2,500. Lowest credit limit, ever. Even my first major credit card (AMEX) was approved for $2,700.

Got my Discover More in Aug, $5500 CL. This was my only CC at the time, so I was suprised and happy to get that much. No CLI yet.

My card is more than 2 years old. It opened with a CL of $2,000 and has stayed there ever since.

Opened in 2006 at $7500, was given auto CLI every 6 months until they stopped. Now at 16K

Opened mine in 2007 with 8K limit, got a increase to 10.4K in 2009 and just got a cli to 11.4K last month.

Opened Discover More in 12/08 with a limit of $5490. 10/09 received a $2k increase via IVR. 04/10 redeemed $50 cashback bonus for statement credit-->auto cli and limit was $8990. 10/10 redeemed $50 cashback bonus for statement credit-->auto cli and limit is $9890. Tried my luck and on December 5th I redeemed another $50 for statement credit and did NOT get another CLI. Bummer.
