Cap 1 EO Number Issue?

As I was reading another thread that was just locked, it kind of upset me. Here Is why. The thread was locked for the following reason:

"Please continue to go through Cap One's Facebook or email for assistance. OP received the number from previous contact with them using this method. Cap One does not like to be cold-called and the last thing we want is to have all contact methods shut down"

I'm not one to want to bring up issues on MyFico, however I believe this one warrants some discussion. I would not recommend the moderators lock these kinds of threads. IMHO I don't believe it is the moderators place to tell us in what manner we should conduct our business. Capital one has these numbers for a reason, for the consumer. No business or person wants to be cold-called with a problem, but a good business will still handle the problem until a resolution is found! If we can’t use these numbers to solve our problems, then what good are they?

Facebook and email has been good for some, but for others we work better by phone. So, I say we should embrace these numbers and call when needed. The EO has helped so many people, simply by calling, so why shut us down when we try and help others? This is what MyFico is for, to help! Also, I'm not saying this to be rude, but MyFico is not the only credit forum around, the EO number flows freely through dozens of other threads on other boards so if they don't get it here, they will simply get it elsewhere anyway. Please, look into this issue and help us

Thanks Guys and Gals!

PS - Please don't send this to die in SmorgasBoard?

As a means to keep visibility on a diverse number of topics, threads that are considered redundant are sometimes consolidated and/or locked upon moderator review. Using the search function, you will find numerous threads on the topic of Cap One EO Contact Information.

While the EO number and email may be visible on other boards, the TOS of this community does not allow personal contact information to be posted. Yes, we know that the CEO isn't personally answering the emails and answering the phones. However, the information is still considered a "personal" contact under the Community standards. While we recommend using either social media or an internet search to obtain the CEO email, many members have contacted other members through PM to obtain EO contact information.

Capital One has decided to set up their so called "customer service" in this ridiculous way and I find it very telling that the staff is concerned that if word gets out that this wonderful way of conducting business might get "shut down". I have personally never seen any indication given by Capital One as to which way they would prefer you solve the mystery of obtaining service for your account. For all we know it takes them weeks to reply to emails because they are flooded with them and would prefer to just talk to us on the phone. That's the thing about servicing your customers via top secret channels is that you leave it up to them to figure out what works and what doesn't.

I'm not sure where the preaching about the TOS is coming from, I never saw any contact information posted and I tend to agree that it's a little presumptuous to close a thread based on personal ideas or preferences about what you think is the best way for a person to make contact with a lender they are doing business with.

It's just as likely to assume that if the phone lines at the EO get bombarded that Cap1 will figure out that people want a normal realiable way to obtain actual really real customer service that doesn't require multiple points of contact and weeks of waiting. However, I wouldn't assume to know...

Anyways.....

As I was the original poster of that thread and had multiple PM's with the mod about whether the # shoulb be posted or not, ultimately it was decided not to for many reasons... One is Cap1 will just flat out not allow any contact in the future to there EO and none of us want this.. If they want to do the FB or Email route, I guess that is the theory of how they do business. I don't agree with it at all, but it is better to havef some way of gettting ahold of them then no way and having to deal with the regular CSR's. Cap1 has made it clear they don't want this # public for whatever reason. Anyways, I see both sides of the arguement. We al know Cap1 is a PITA to do buinesss with as there normal CSR's are well to put it nicely not the brigest stars in the sky or just not empowered to make decisions. Anyways, gotta follow the rules and they still will get back to you via FB or email, just takes a bit longer..

Meh, don't see the biggie, I have the EO on my cell phone from when they called me. If they wanted it to be some big secret number that nobody should ever call they would have blocked it from showing.

Most items can be handled by the online chat anyway, except for CLI's.

Dealing with Capital One is enough to drive anyone bonkers and that's why you see an endless flow of threads about it and never ending requests for the contact info. I get that it gets old seeing the same request for the same info over and over again, but it's the same way that it gets old trying to understand the mystery of their "customer service". It's just an opinion, but I simply do not agree with the idea of shielding them from the barage of THEIR customers who are looking for actual customer service. When their front line script readers are sitting there twiddling their thumbs and the EO phones are ringing non stop maybe they will figure it out. Probably not but I can't imagine how shielding them is going to help anything.

I have a number for them saved in my phone also, but I'll never call it again. I called every year for 3 years and one LAST time before closing both my QS1 cards and they never once seemed surprised by the process they developed. Some people don't seem to mind it and I absolutely understand the idea of wanting to repay the one lender who was there for you. I felt the same way, but at the end of the day the situation Cap1 finds themselves in is one they created for themselves. It's their method, we don't decide what method of contact is effective. We simply leverage whatever works.

I don't mind answering the same question more than once if it helps multiple people who genuinely need the information--it's much truer to the mantra of "friendly, supportive, and respectful" than just barking "Use the search feature" at them.

Besides, don't we already waste enough gigabytes on useless "shopping cart trick approval" threads that are just filled with generic "Congrats! Thanks for sharing" posts that just ring hollow, whose only purpose is to pad someone's already bloated post count?

And what's up with the EO phone #s/emails being such a mystery? It's not like they're the nuclear launch codes.

I have to agree with you guys. It is pretty unreasonable to resort to locking threads trying to help people get in contact with someone at CapOne who can really make things happen for them especially if someone has never heard about the EO before. I think it'd be kind of unwelcoming to just say to them go find it yourself in a search bar. Since when did EO numbers become such a top secret around here?

What about EO contacts of some other lenders? For example, this sticky thread here has numbers of EO office of some other lenders. So, in think there is no issue with sharing numbers except of Cap One for some reason.

There has been plenty of emails regarding Cap One and their preferred method of contact. Cold calling is not one of them. Our BDN thread is full of contact info and we attempt to keep it updated but there are some companies that do not wish the information listed publicly. The BDN thread summarizes Cap 1's desire to quell customer initiated requests for years.

For those who think we enjoy locking threads to stymie your ability to contact a CEO, you are mistaken.
