I used to have a Chase card, and I currently have a BofA card.

From my recollection, Chase was definitely more stingy about CLIs. In fact, I just got approved for a CLI today by BofA, despite not looking so hot on paper.

can anyone suggest strategies for getting CLI's on chase and boa cards? what do these companies like to see, and how stringent is (at least chase) for granting an auto-CLI?

thanks very much for your time.

since credit tightening, I find chase a pain to deal with.

Can't really comment on Chase since I don't have any experience with their CCs, but BoA is still generous with CLIs, even in this credit environment. I've gotten a couple of consumer-initiated CLIs in the last few months by calling the backdoor credit dept analyst number. I'm not sure how they are with auto-CLIs because I guess I'm just too impatient to wait for those.

A major difference between the two is that consumer-initiated CLIs seem to always result in a hard pull with Chase whereas BoA CLI requests are softs.

The best strategies for getting CLIs with just about all creditors is to use the card and PIF or revolve small balances only for a short period of time. Keeping the card in the "sockdrawer" or revolving large balances from month to month (unless perhaps it's a BT) makes some lenders leary of granting a CLI.

Good luck!

Message Edited by lurknomore on 07-22-2008 04:37 AM

yeah - I requested a CLI and I got harded because I didn't think it was a big deal at the time. Oh well, have to lock myself away in the CCUC except for getting soft pull CLI's with BoA and Amex (cards which I plan to use much more now!).

From what I have read here Chase seems to be pretty good at granting an auto-CLI on yearly anniversaries, and WILL pull a hard for EVERY consumer initiated CLI request.

However, Chase seems to have some sort of sub-prime accounts that aren't eligible for CLI ever.

Yeah Chase has those 200 dollar cl (no CLI) cards that are probably good for dinner and a movie. No airline tickets can be charged on those.

Both companies are pretty generous with CLI's, but as already stated revolving a high balance over a period of time could create problems for you when you CLI... Chase is always a hard pull, BOA has always been a soft pull for me.
