Direct Rewards

Hi, I applied for a Discover Card, was denied. I was approved for a HSBC Direct Rewards card. My question....is this a cc (on the order of a Discover card but thru HSBC)?

There are a bunch of threads discussing this card. You might try doing a search for "direct rewards discover" in the search box. You may see references to Direct Merchants Bank, which offered the card before HSBC took it over.

I applied for Discover too and was denied but approved for the HSBC Discover card too. I just received it yesterday ($750 credit limit). The card has "Direct Rewards Platinum" on top, but the Discover logo on the bottom so when I use it I have to choose "Discover" from the card choices.\

I'm using the same site I used for my other HSBC card to manage my account.

It took about 10 days. First, I got a letter giving me the card details (interest rate, etc...) and about three days later the card arrived.

Congrats on the new DMB Discover! I had one of these and it was great having a Discover card in the repertoire.

$750 is a good starting CL from them. Most people (myself included) start at $300 with a $59 AF.

when did you get your first cli with the 300 initial cl

I'm not Fretless, but I'll share my experience. I started w/ the card in Aug 06 w/ a 1k limit/no AF. In Feb 08 I rec'd an auto-CLI to 1.5k. (If they reviewed at 6 mo and 12 mo I'm pretty sure the card was around 95% util, hence, no CLI.)

I'm not Peas, nor do I play her on tv.

The only CLI I ever saw on that card was when I went to cancel it (as in seriously cancel it, not a ploy for CLI) and they offered a $500 CLI to $800.

I took it and then canceled several months later.

On a side note, my DR Disc was on the chopping block for several months. At the moment it is getting some use b/c it's only one of three rewards cards in my possession (lost wallet saga). I'm wondering if I could use this logic -- call to cancel after I PIF and see what they'll give me. The card will turn two years old in just under a month.

When I went to cancel it the second time they didn't even transfer me, the front door CSR clicked his mouse and it was done. So, it might not work.

But I stress to anyone reading this thinking about trying for a CLI this way, I was completely serious the first time. They were also more than happy to close my account, and they WILL NOT reopen the account after it's closed.

Agreed. I'm totally fine with giving this card its wings. I just have to remember to redeem my rewards (ha!) first.
