Upgrade offer..

I received an upgrade offer from Amx. I have a Everyday cash Cc and I was offered the upgrade to Everyday preferred Cc with annual fee. Shoud I take offer.

UPgrade offers are JUST marketing. Just evaluate it compared to your current spend, and whether the higher multipliers would be worth the AF (and whatever incentives they offer to upgrade). If you are able to use the MR points well (transfer to partners for good redemptions) the EDP is a very good card. If you are redeeming for statement credit or gift cards, probably not worth the AF (and use a different card!)

No. Do not upgrade as youll lose eligibility for the sign up bonus.

Well, we don't know if this applies in this case, but an obvious answer is because of the better rewards! It's not as if the cards are identical except one has an AF (like Cap One QS and QS one). EDP has a more generous reward structure

Insufficient information. You need to the numbers for your own specifics (spend, etc). If one card was universally better than the other then everyone would have that card and no one would have the other. It's really no different than evaluating any card out there. Don't simply respond to offers.

One should always consider total cost/benefit verus simply AF/no AF. The ED and the EDP are not the same so the OP is not getting the same thing for free already. Make sure you understand the two things you're comparing any time you're making a comparison.

For clarification OP, do you currently have the AMEX EveryDay card with MR Points? Or the AMEX Blue CASH EveryDay card, with cash back percentages?

And the offer you received is for the Everyday Preferred card, with MR points, correct?

The reason for the question is, if you are going from a cash percentage reward structure with no AF to a Mileage Rewards point structure, with AF, quite a different analysis is involved. My brain would melt.

NRB525..I have the blue cash everyday with cash back percentage. The offer was a everyday preferred cc. No mention of MR..

Good catch, NRB525, I really didn't think that they would do that! I would expect BCE holders to be "offered" the BCP, not the EDP, but maybe they are trying to switch more people to that card.

In that case, they are really offering a very different program, changing cashback to points for travelling. And now I am with Nixon, you almost certainly would get a bonus applying for this card as the BCE is a different type of card.

So, IF you are interested in this sort of reward, which makes sense only if you a) want to travel on MR partners, and b) can use the card at least 30 times a month (in which case it is a very good card), STILL only take it if the upgrade offer is better than the public offer, or if you really don't want another INQ.
