Sharing CC with Mom?

My Mom lives with me..sometimes I shop and sometimes she does. Can I loan her my AMEX BCP? Do I need to give here letter saying I agree to it? Any help would be appeciated..

You can add her as an AU on your amex card so she would get her own card with her own account number, but you would still be responsbile for all her purchases.

The card is supposed to be used only by the card holder whose name is on the card along with their signature. So no, you're not supposed to loan someone your card. Just add her as an AU. Very simple to do.

I'll add that not that long ago it was common for people to loan their cards, especially parents to children. But because of fraud it's been cracked down on and not supposed to happen. Are you going to get caught? Probably not, but it's not worth the hassle and embarrassment

What the previous posters said is definitely the proper way the card should be used, but I have my girlfriend and my employees take my card and run to buy things all the time. I have never had anyone say anything about it. In fact I don't know that i have ever had a teller ask for my ID when I have made a purchase unless it was alcohol. Other posters are correct though, in a perfect world nobody other than you should be able to make a purchase with your card, even with your permission.

I do this all the time with my wife's Cash Plus, but I only use it at one place. I didn't want to be AU as I didn't want a new account showing up.

But certainly a question of personal comfort, depending how you would feel if someone said that is not your card.

I have a BCP and have my niece on the account as an AU. She doesn't get to

hold the card, but occasionally she gets the card when she needs to rent a car.

Amex accounts make managing AU cards easy and the primary account holder

gets all the rewards. If you're going to make a regular habit of lending your card

to your mom, I'd get an AU card in her name and lend her that card. Besides the

advantage of avoiding potential declines when she uses your card, you can set

lower spending limits and text/email message alerts on the card whenever it is

used. It's free and the application & management is pretty painless.

I just did get an AU. Should be here in short order. If it was my wife I would have felt better her using the card. I just didn't want Amex to close my card or anything which is why I asked. Thanks for all the replies.

That is correct, the card is only "valid" if the cardholder is using it, and the card is "non-transferable"
