Good thing you can confirm a charge attempt online, though, without having to call in.

What's funny is when I travel, AMEX tells me they don't need to be notified, and at least for me my card has never been declined (minus the special ed gas station cashier that repeatedly tried to run my Amex as debit and tell me that "you clearly don't have the money for that [$2.00 coffee/donut]"). My CU in stark contrast blocks things when I visit my mother in Novi, less than an hour away, but I've flown to Ft. Lauderdale for a weekend, and Amex went through without a FA. So maybe YMMV? Citi is also pretty good to me in terms of approving charges without forewarning of travel plans.

I can relate to sort of......... used my debit card (as credit) at a drugstore and it was declined and then later at the CU atm... also declined. Immediately after the attempted ATM transaction, I recieved a text from the CU about my card number had been compromised. I'm glad they are looking out for me however I never understand why the bank/CU waits until after you attempt (and they decline the transaction) to let you know about the fraud/theft.

I would be very upset and embarrased and take some time later that day and have alittle talk with those lenders.. Not like you are out of country.. Guess you could of gave them a heads up on traveling, but within the us that really isn't typically an issue at least for me.

Yes haha. I was on a date, everything was going great until it was time to pay for the food. My card came back declined. I ended up having to split the check since I only had only half, I asked my date if she could put the other half. She wasn't bothered but I was really, really embarrassed. Worst thing was, it was valentines day.

I had this happen at a gas station before. They had let me pump my car full and I went inside to pay and they declined 10 credit cards. Yup, 10!

I said, look I know for a fact your system is down. The meth'd out attendant wasnt helpful and only offered excuses. She pointed out that no one else was having an issue.

I pointed out that they were using cash(bad part of town)....

In the end I had to use the crappy gas station atm, walked out of there real angry. I called Chase and demanded an answer, they said we never got anything on our system, the gas station was at fault.

Typical for the low income part of town(broke equipment, druggie attendants), knew I should have avoided it.

@Anonymous wrote:

Yes haha. I was on a date, everything was going great until it was time to pay for the food. My card came back declined. I ended up having to split the check since I only had only half, I asked my date if she could put the other half. She wasn't bothered but I was really, really embarrassed. Worst thing was, it was valentines day.

Haha, I guess it left it wide-open for you to come to her room to pay her half.

I get a fraud alert every now and then and the worst offender is American Express. Good thing you can confirm a charge attempt online, though, without having to call in.
