Chase Freedom Rewards Redeemed!

I'm not sure what category this goes under, so mods please feel free to move if this is incorrect. Just thought I would share with everyone that my first statement just cut with my Chase Freedom card today and when I logged on this morning to pay my balance it showed that I had 21,400 rewards points. This equated into a $212.00 account credit! Great way to start a Monday!

Congratulations! Those points can be redeemed at a higher value than that though if used right...

Should be $214? This included your bonus I assume

It's not really about using them "right" or "wrong". It's whatever you are interested in. If someone has no interest in travel transfers, to get more value out of their points, then they aren't interested in. Yes, you can get more value out of them that way, but if you don't want to travel, it's pointless

Yes, it was $214.00. Excuse the typo. And yes, this included the sign-up bonus. I was pretty positive that I signed up when the offer was only $150.00 when you spend $500.00, but it looks like they gave me the $200.00 sign-up bonus. I wont complain.

That was sorta me sentiment. It made it to where my payment to pay off my statement was only $200.00 instead of $400.00. The cash that I saved on the payment will just go straight into savings now.

While this may not have applied to the OP, I think there is some educational value in pointing out the type of redemption that provides the "most" theoretical value. Often people simply don't know these things, e.g. paying with points on Amazon or getting statement credits with Citi TYP/Amex cards. With the Freedom, it's not so bad as the card has no AF and the "poor-value" redemptions are still 1:1, but saying that higher value redemptions are available if applicable to your situation is useful information.

As long as you use the points how you want then you are using them right .

Right, unless you don't know better, and would make a different decision if you did. People (not all, but many) jump on people who get for example the Visa Blakc for $495, simply because, for most, this isn't the best (or even "right" option). This is really the same. Knowing all your options, and then choosing one, is indeed using them right. But that simply isn't always the case.
