Its about being added as an AU and getting that opening date on his CR

http://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/Credit-Cards/Citi-World-Elite-Authorized-User/td-p/3735501

yeah i see that, learn something new everyday i guess

Yup, as you can see from my responses in the thread I was a bit surprised myself.

That's not real backdating though. You always get the full history of an account when added as an AU and it goes away when removed as AU. If this person opened their own account and then had the same year on their own account from the AU date then that would be backdating.

That's not always true. At least in my case. I was AU on a discover. When cancelled the closed account history still reported on my CR.

When I opened my own DISCOVER account the open date was different from the AU open date.

Does Discover backdate?

I opened a Discover card back in 2001. I made a biggest mistake by adding my cousin (with no credit history) as a joint on my account in 2006 so that she has good credit. I spoke to Discover CSR, and I was told that unlike AU, there is no way to remove a joint user or secondary user beside closing the account and open a new one. I don't want to close my Discover card, cuz it's one of the oldest that I have owned. Does anyone have any recommendation?

I made a biggest mistake by adding my cousin (with no credit history) as a joint on my account in 2006 so that she has good credit. I spoke to Discover CSR, and I was told that unlike AU, there is no way to remove a joint user or secondary user beside closing the account and open a new one. I don't want to close my Discover card, cuz it's one of the oldest that I have owned. Does anyone have any recommendation?

Amex is the only 1 that BD

Apparently Citi does as well.

why do you say that ?

Well I thought the same as you until a thread recently where a person opened up a Citi card after having one years ago and they backdated to the original one.

Wasn't that thread about reopening an old account . Correct me if i am wrong

I don't think so but I could be wrong. I'm trying to find the thread now

ok thanks............I do remember reading some of it

Actually in some limited cases Discover does... "Backdate"

For AU's anyway.

My mother added me as an AU to her Discover account and had it noted that I could call and make changes or make requests for her (She isn't much of a phone person.)

It dated to 2007 when it popped up on my reports.

That sounds like standard operating procedure on AU accounts. Amex is the only company that will open a new account with an old date.

You always get the full history of an account when added as an AU and it goes away when removed as AU. If this person opened their own account and then had the same year on their own account from the AU date then that would be backdating.
