Last night/this morning, I had a dream that I had about thirty fraudulent charges on my CSP and I was upset that Chase didn't "catch" any of them. I usually check my accounts every day, as I only have a handful, just to look for any surprise CLIs and/or charges I didn't make. So, when I woke up, I did my morning check... nothing weird on the CSP, but I saw three charges I didn't make on my Discover. WEIRD! haha. (I'm not super obsessed with fraud, as I've never experienced it until today, but I think reading these forums daily had something to do with this dream!)

Anyway, long story short, I called in and was transferred to the fraud department. The rep asked if I'd ever shopped with the merchants before (I haven't)--two were from Steam, a video game service, for $26.00 total and the other was Fey's Midnight Express, a trucking company in Lousiana, for $0.97 (yeah, I don't get it). She also asked if anyone in my household could have used the card (yes, but they did not), followed by two security questions. She said they'd send a new card, and after I asked how long it would take to get here she offered to expedite it (will be here by Tuesday). Overall, although I felt a little "weird" knowing someone was using my name and my card, the process was super fast and pleasant in an odd way.

Bummer! Nothing is fool proof but until we get universal acceptance of chip/pin technology in the US fraud will always be an issue ... I don't sweat it much anymore as long as they don't steal my identity. Your card number can be stolen almost anywhere, i.e., restaurants, gas station pump readers, store clerks with swipers, on and on ...

Checking often and setting up text alerts make sure it won't go long without you knowing and calling the CCC.

Online fraud is another can of worms ... however, one of the frequent ways your credit card number is stolen (and subsequently sold for people to shop online) is that it is captured at some point when you turn it over to a person and they disappear to skim it, or you stick it in a POS machine. True chip/pin keeps your actual card number from being left behind at the point of sale. Of course, criminals will always figure out ways to circumvent but this will greatly reduce the amount of giveaway to the crooks. There is also random number generator technology that will be embedded in cards that is already being tested by card manufactures that should further deal with the online fraud problem.

She thanked me for my honesty and said it shows how a good man i am, she was so sweet!

So it's weird that I read this post and happen to check my accounts and notice something strange.

I had missed the call and a rep left a voicemail and so i called back and after some explaining to the rep and some research they did, I recieved the $50 becasue of a promotion back in october and said i get to keep it!

A looked thought my emails and i found the promotion they were talking about it was about Direct Deposit, and i looked over it and it says direct deposit from employeer, pension or goverment agency..... well all i have been doing was transfering money from my PNC account into my Discover Cashback checking acount, so i shouldn't have qualified for it so i called them back and talked with a rep and explained everything and after some research they did they again said i can keep it and its clearly noted in my account that i can keep it and he even gave me an encounter number which links back to the notes just in case.

I wanted to do the right thing but they don't want it back becasue they think its mine, i told them that that's cheating their system and he said he will note my feedback.

So i'm $50 richer for doing nothing i guess.
