We all applied for that U.S. airways for the 50k bonus , some of y'all got a better deal with the 10k anniversary bonus miles . Once spend is met on most of these airlines cards what is really the continuing benefit especially for those very infrequent flyers . I mean is a $99 AF worth saving 100 in luggage fees when you fly once every two years to visit grandma in the other side of the country lol !? Just something I thought earlier , I understand they are good for putting some airline miles in your account but with UR and MR you could do the same thing and not have to be tied to a specific airline card .....

Well if you aren't flying much no airline card is going to be worthwhile.

Its debatable but this is why opening cards just for bonuses doesn't always make sense. You could end up with a useless card that you then SD or close. Not a huge deal, but annoying nonetheless.

@Open123 wrote:

Ah, for airlines people fly frequently, they'll already have status and wouldn't need a card to confer it. For me, I've close ever ariline card I've ever opened for a bonus. The only exception may be worth keeping would be the UA Club card earning 1.5 miles per dollar spent.

One of the significant airline card benefits is, when you buy tickets for that airline, you get double miles on those dollars. And for those of us who fly regularly, such as on Delta, but can't maintain Silver status, the card provides a boost in early boarding and access to lounges that otherwise I would not get.

So the annual $100 fee becomes a way to have a card that feeds and maintains the miles one earns with that airline, as well as provides some perks when using the airline. Provided one is already flying that airline for other reasons.

For those who app cold for an airline card, you're on your own. You most likely won't be able to spend enough after the bonus period, except over a couple of years, to get a flight, so you are free to close the account. That $100 AF is going to annoy you.

I fly to CA about 3 times a year,and my xplorer card saves me 300$ each year.Thus, the xplorer offer primary insurance,a perk that well worth its 95 AF.
