What is your "check spending" ability with Amex?

I have a 20k cl with Amex and I will be going for my 6 month increase July 1. I check my spending ability once a month and as of today I am approved for $27k.. So, I was wondering how many of you check this for yourself. If you do, let us know how well you are doing with your "check spending" ability.

I check a couple times a months out of boredom, sure I will be locked out shortly... Most recently I checked it on my ED I have had for alittle over 1.5 months and I put in 25k on a 10k CL and it was approved... Wanted to try 30k, right after but wanted to save that for another week of boredom

Edit two weeks prior I tried for 20k and that was approved too... So that is why I bumped it to 25k this week when I Tried.

Part of me is paranoid that AMEX would think im in real trouble if they began to think 20,000 limit wasnt enough for a short term purchase

Just checked and came back with $40,000 with $200 bal showing on my $24,000 CL.

Curious about the use of that feature on my PRG. I have only done it once so far. Will I set off the proverbial red flag if I did it often or if I put in a fairly big number?

I really think it's one of those urban legends that if you check it too often that they will AA you. They put the link there for a reason. They want you to use the card for big purchases

A rep once told me that if you do it more than 3 times a day it will lock you out then you have to wait for it to unlock.

Many thanks. I know I can get a bit paranoid with this stuff but having finally gotten in good graces with good credit card grantors just makes me more cautious than normal.

Just do it. Checking once and a while is not going to hurt. Just don't play with every day.

You will get locked out. I think that they don't want people 'playing' with it but checking it often isn't going to bring the AMEX dragon down upon you.

Funny thing is had my friend try it oncewith his personal Amex Plat, got him locked out on the first time trying, weird.. I was on a 3 way call when he called CS to make sure his card was still useable, they are don't you want to know your spending ability, he was nah, just playing with the website since I never used that button and wanted to make sure my card wasn't locked out... With that being said he has a corporate Amex plat he puts 30k a month through approx. and has been compromised 4 times this year already, probably why he had the issue even though they are personal/business cards. I would be livid if my card got compromised 4 times in 3 months.

I'm not feeling the love from AmEx. If I try an amount over my CL (or even my CL when they are processing a payment for the full balance) it gives me a denial and states it is over my credit limit. Waah...I want AmEx to love me.

Mine's always fluctuating anyway so I don't really take it as seriously now. Like one day it will say that I'm approved for $5k or an amount like that and then the next day, I'm not approved and vice versa. When it comes to charge cards especially, you do still have a limit despite all the talk about NPSL and that's paying back everything that you charge to the card.

All depends how much you are pumping through it I guess and your current CL... It only states it will be approved if you try it for the amount right then, not the next day.. Really it is a toy or sorts, but more powerful.. Revlovers in a sort are just like NPSL as both have limits, but revolvers you can carry balacnes with, granted if you went above you spending limit you would have to pay that portion off w/statement

So when I just checked it on my wife's Amex ED, it wanted me to submit a purchase amount, and then click submit?

It said to enter the amount of the purchase and it would tell me if it was going to be approved.
