AAoA questions (backdate vs inherit)

I've been looking through the forums but am finding conflicting answers on this. If I add someone as an AU on one of my cards:

1) does the AU inherit all of the history associated with that card?

2) will the open date for the AU report as the open date of my card, extending the AAoA for the AU?

3) is there any difference if my card is an Amex card?

1. Certain banks yes

2. Not that I have seen

I'm trying to add my sister who has no credit history of her own to one of my cards. I'm hoping that'll give her a score and something on her report so that she could apply for a decent starter card within a couple of months (like a Discover It).

It will give her a score and something on her account. But her account date will be the date you added her, not the date you opened the account. Also, since she currently has no history, it will take longer than two months to generate a score.

I would suggest she attempt to open a Cap-1 starter card before you add her as AU.

I added my DW to my BoA as AU 2 months after I open the account, her reports show the same date as mine as open. Then her added me to her account, and the TL is nor reporting on mine.

I've already added her to my Amex because I figure it would help her in the future with the backdating benefit. But the Amex is also one of my newest cards. I was hoping I could add her to an older card so it would show at least a year of history on her report, but if that won't help anyway, I'll just wait for a score to generate on her report before referring her to apply for the Discover It card.

Crazy. Your story matches mine exactly. Just added my sister, no history this week to my Amex. She's in college and not working so I'll give her a year on my card before I apply her for (most-likely {80%}) Discover It card as well.

1) Depends.
2) Depends

3) Yes.

I find that on accounts where the AU is issued the same card number, they inherit all of the history and the open date when the trade line appears on their account.

With issuers that give AU's their own account number their history and open date tracks seperately.

The above are simply guidelines, there are almost certainly exceptions in both cases.

Anecdotely, I just added my SO as an AU to a BofA card I've had for 10 years. When the TL finally reported my SO got credit for all the payment history and the original open date, it boosted her AAoA significantly.

Question: Does anyone have any experience with payment history and org open date on being added or adding someone on a Chase Freedom
in relation to how it reports for the AU (which in this case is me from my sis)?

If you find a helpful/willing CSR at AMEX - you might just still be able to pull off getting her backdated... very far and few in between though as most will tell you that backdating only applies to 'basic' members.

I had a semi-similar situation with my sister... she's only had 1 card for 2 years at 2k carrying 90% balance.. This past Dec I added her to 3 of my highest/oldest lines and just this past weekend when she came for a visit we did an app spree for her totalling $58k in new lines She's 21 btw.

Wish I knew what I know now when I was that old!

I have added 2 AU's on 2 Chase cards (Amazon and CSP) in the past year. Both have inherited the open date and entire payment history.

instantly loads lots of green marks on their reports.

$8k Chase Freedom

$12k NFCU Flagship

$15k NFCU LOC

She's active duty military so we looked at cards without/minimal AF's with the big lenders. BCP pays for itself since she mostly buys groceries plus she's got a $150 bonus for $1k spend. Similar with Freedom bonus: $100 for $500 spend. I'm taking care of her spends so she gets the bonuses for it

EDIT: Still trying to find a CSR that'll backdate her to my '99 MSD... no luck yet.

Glad you did the research and so the AF won't feel like a penalty later on. Let us know when you find one.

Well, as you can see, things vary from bank to bank--I added my wife as an AU on my Capital One Quicksilver card and she inherited the full history, including the date opened.
