You can only have 3 cards. What do you keep?

I use three because that's the ideal number of cards for credit score worthiness according to some.

So, what say you?

I have three now, but two are 'store' cards (if you want to call Care Credit a store card). I'm shooting for Barclay Rewards, and maybe Chase Sapphire Preferred or Amex BCP down the road.

I would keep CSP to pair with freedom definately , As far as BCP goes not that big of an fan of that card when there are no af cards that are better

Freedom and CSP are the two definites for me. I'd also want another card that's widely accepted, doesn't have an AF (or at least has benefits that are worth the AF) and has great rewards. Amex would make a nice third choice, but couldn't tell you which, BCP is the favorite on account of groceries, but yeah, that annual fee.

One card for 5% cash back (Freedom), one card for Dining and Travel (CSP) and one card for my major categories, gas and groceries (Sallie Mae or BCP or a similar No-AF version).

I feel like this is changing for me all the time...but as of now:

1. Sallie Mae

2. Citi Double Cash

3. US Bank Cash + (I could have easily selected Chase Freedom over this given the annual nerfing of Cash +)

Cash+

No less than 3% (amortized) cash back anywhere and 5% in lots of key categories. With the Cash+, fast food is actually 95% as useful as a non-nerfed restaurant category for me fortunately.

Decent network coverage since JCB works on the Discover network, and Cash+ is visa signature so that can be at least an attempt to fill in for Amex bells and whistles.

Citi Forward (5% for restaurants, amazon, and entertainment all the time. Racking up points for eventual Citi Prestige pick up)

Chase Freedom (to be paired with CSP for transfers/quarterly rewards - if Forward categories fall in the same category as Freedom's quarterly category, would prefer to use Freedom as UR are more valuable)

CSP (for no foreign transaction fees/allow transfer of points to airlines/travel purchases)

I'd keep the CSP, BCP and Discover. The CSP for points and the BCP and Discover for cash back. Since I assume you're only talking about personal credit cards, I'd also keep my Chase Ink Plus for the points.

Okay, serious answer.

Barclays, because I can make other cards. (Sallie Mae in Future).
Amazon until get sallie Mae, then back to freedom.
BCE upgrade to BCP (until get sallie Mae

But on business, Amex SimplyCash, looking for Ink Cash, and a travel card that replaces Aviator.

If get ink Cash, might replace Freedom with discover.

So three personal, three business.
