Amex No Longer Backdating to Credit Bureaus

I was just told by a customer service rep in the Amex credit bureau office that after March 21st, 2015 Amex will no longer be backdating applications to credit beaur's. That does not affect MSD's. I applied for a card in February, but it did not report until March 28th, and when it did, it was reported as opening in 2015. The MSD date on my card is still back dated to 2013 like it should be, but I was told that because it first reported after the policy change, there is nothing that can be done.

This is a huge let down from Amex and really turns me off to adding any more Amex cards.

Thats interesting.. I hope that CSR is just misinformed. I will wait to see if there is data on this before I decide it is set in stone. Also, If I were you I'd talk to someone again from Amex to see if they tell you the same thing..

I would expect to hear a lot more noise about it if it was really the case, but maybe it's too soon for many people to realize.

This will really suck if true. I received my Amex Everyday last month but it won't report until next week. I will see what happens.

Right, if true, we'll see and read confirmation soon enough. I'd wager the CSR was simply either misinformed or had miscommunicated. Matter of fact, I'll test it out myself soon enough.

Well that's what I thought too, so I searched for anyone else talking about it on here and found nothing. According to this particular CSR, the policy changed less than three weeks ago, so my guess is that it just has not affected too many people yet.

Hm, I spoke to a CSR last Friday (March 27th) looking into why my BCP card is still reporting as 2013, while my Hilton was backdated to 2007. CSR said it will be fixed, and she didnt know why the card wasnt backdated correctly.

My statement cuts in a week, so, we'll see.

EDIT: I called their credit reporting division directly, not frontline CSRs

I have the same problem with mine too. My PRG was reported correctly to 1995 and my Hilton was reported 2000. I called this morning to the credit bureau after they have alredy corrected the PRG and they said that it's reporting correctly and nothing else can be done, yet my PRG is reporting the real correct date of 1995. I don't understand why they can fix one and leave the other hanging. Wonder how this is going to affect future cards for current members. I hope this is just a rumor.

Irrespective of the MSD date on the physical card, all of my apps have always reflected correctly on the CRAs, as recent as a month ago on a PRG.

IF it's true it would not only be a blow to cardholders, but to Amex itself. Would be a very dumb move for them, given all the other setbacks they've had lately.

I'd hold off on making any assumptions for now, but sure would dread it if this news turned out to be correct.

Actually this change makes sense, because American Express has been providing inaccurate data to the bureaus by reporting an incorrect account opening date. This information should reflect the actual account opening date. If this is true, be happy they don't retroactively correct the previously reported misinformation.
