I got tired of the Cap 1 song & dance!!!!

Hello all!!!

I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders!!! After 14 years and 15 days of being a Cap 1 customer, I CLOSED my account. For the past 2 years, I have been trying to get them to lower my interest rate and remove the monthly $5 fee that they are charging me without success.

I was tired of the BS and getting the runaround!!! And yes, I called the EO. I dont have any more time to waste. You know what's funny though? They purchased Household back in 2013 and that gave me 2 accounts with them. Since acquiring my HH account, it has transformed from a regualr mastercard to Quick Silver 1, with an annual fee, to a Quick Silver with no annual fee. The interest rate still sucks but IDC because I run 1 transaction through it a year and PIF immediately just to keep it open.

I was sick of "you have to wait to receive an offer" or "close this account and reapply for another card" foolishness. Meanwhile, Cap 1 is collecting $60 from me annually. I appreciate Cap 1 being there for me when I needed them and I worked hard to retain our relationship. Apparently, keeping me as a customer was NOT important to them. I understand the value of a $1, so I can't keep throwing my money away. C'est la vie!!!!

1 transaction a year.? I hear alot of stories of people complaining about CapONE whom barely use their cards. I use them heavily and they treat me great, trade off I guess.

Oh yeah! I closed 4 cap 1 cards several months ago (maybe a year) and I have no regrets. All I wanted was for them to remove the annual fees and they kept refusing. I decided that I didn'r need to keep paying those fees. I've never contacted the EO, though. I was unwilling to jump through those hoops for the paltry credit lines.

Since then they've been sending me "we want you back" offers.I'm only showing luv to the issuers that show me luv!

I am happy that Cap 1 values you as a client. However, Cap 1 is not my only rewards card so, like you, I use the card that treats me well. Good luck!!!

used em a lot over the past 4 mos ........NADA from them..........I've charged over 30% each month and paid'em off.......even let one month report a balance still nothing worth having. I have an old HSBC card that morphed into a Venture One but they keep the interest rate at the hsbc rate of over 28%. I've moved from neutral to highly dislike Cap1.

IDK how long you were a client. For me, it was about preserving the relationship. They were there for me when I needed them which is the ONLY reason why I didn't close the other account. I will confess, the interest rate wasn't my biggest issue. It was the $5 monthly fee that was the nail in the coffin for me. I will ALWAYS appreciate them extending credit to me so I could rebuild. I know on here Cap 1 goes by a different name, but they didn't make me screw up my credit. I did that ALL on my OWN. Good luck!!!

Congrats! I wouldn't keep my account open if they charged me either. My capital one card isn't with a monthly free.

I was recently liberated after holding a paltry GM WEMC w/ $600 SL that they refused to grow.

Then even more recently Capital One won my business back with a 10K Venture Card.

Im sorry you ended up having to close out the acts.that really stinks after being a loyal customer for so long, even through EO

On a side note, Ive had my share of days where I didn't like them, and they wouldnt give me any CLI on my card, but to their defense...I had just burned them in a BK on cards they aquired, and on a Neiman Marcus account in BK.

They were the first one to reissue me credit 3 months after my BK discharge, and now...a year and a half later, Ive got $44k in credit with them with 5 major cards, and they reapproved me for my Neiman Marcus act last month I wanted back bad, LOL..

I will be forever grateful to them for the credit they have extended me for not even 2 yrs post discharge. Im very fortunate...but I certainly understand your frustration, and least they could have done was remove the monthly fee.

Thanks! It's okay. They said I should close and app again, but I didn't want to do it. I don't need any more credit cards. My goals for this year are increasing my CLs and paying down 1/2 of my student laon balance. It's like with friends some are here for the long haul and others just for a little while. All the cards I have now are prime except for my Merrick Bank credit card and the Walmart DC (I think!). MB is getting closed in October.

Congrats on your ability to rebound quickly from your BK7. Keep up the good work!!!

Sometimes it's best not to force it. I often read on here where people are trying to force the issue. FOr me, it's NEED vs WANT. I don't need it!

Sounds like you had the same card I have. Had it forever, $500 CL, $5 month fee. It's never grown and they won't remove the fee. I've struggled with this but finally decided I don't need this card anymore. I'm going to close mine too.

And Congrats on your decision!

Glad to hear someone else has this card. People seem to think it came from another bank or that the fee is not really $60 annually but it's always been a Cap One card with that fee. I must've paid $600 in fees over the life of this card. Oy.

Oh, last post, they just changed my card to a chip card with a new account number but no CLI LOL. They just don't like me. Which is ok. Plenty do.

To be honest, you don't see these threads as often as you used to. I think all Venture cards have made people giddy over Crap1. At the end of the day though, they're still crap one.

Congratulations OP!! I had 2 QS1 cards that I had had for close to 4 years that they refused to work with me on AT ALL. I was eventually forced to close them both and then literally 2 months later they mailed me a pre-approvaal for the EXACT card I had been trying for nearly 4 years to get them to convert to. Crap1 sucks people in with their excellent servicing of the sub-prime market. They are good at servicing that market but at the end of the day they are snakes in the grass.

I might be the minority here. I've been on and off with cap 1 since 2006 and although up until last year they only gave me credit no higher than $500, at least they showed me love when no one else would.

Last year in november I apped for the QS1. Got approved for 2k. 0% apr until June 2015. Sometime last week they AUTO increased me another 2k. Now I have 4k credit in 5 months. I still have the 39 AF which they refuse the waive but I might PC it to the Venture sometine around July or August. My next AF isn't due til November.

I don't know why they wouldn't be willing to show love to you since you've been so loyal for 14 years but good riddance you got rid of em. They seem to pick and choose who they luv. Amex may not luv me as much as Cap1. I can't seem to get a higher credit increase no matter what I do.

I would like to know if all the people who have had unfavorable experiences with capital one were trying to have something done on an actual capital one product or one that was purchased by capital one. Seems to me when hearing about "bad experiences" they are mostly from trying to get something done with an old HBSC account and not a true capital one product. Food for thought.

This is me. I was sure I'd close my Platinum that came via HSBC via Direct Rewards once I finished my mini app spree and AmEx 3x CLI, but I decided to give the EO a go. I called this morning. I said I'd tried on a few occasions to get the annual fee waived to no avail. I said I was calling to either get the AF waived or close the card. She asked if I meant permanently waived or this year. I said permanently. She opened a case. We'll see. I really wish I would have just closed it. But...we'll see.

I don't see how it makes much difference if you originally had a product with a different company. Once you're a Cap One customer and have a somewhat lengthy/positive relationship with them that should count for something regardless. But in my case it was a Cap One card, wouldnt call the experience bad I just prefer good customer service (they dont have it), not going through an EO for simple things and a limit that didnt suck furry cat balls lol But I have no hard feelings about the issue. Just not interested in doing business with them.

This I simply dont understand >>>> They gave me a chance when no one else would. Ok great. But statistically speaking someone was eventually going to give you a chance at some point. There's a difference between appreciation and blind loyalty. If any of us raised a red flag with a lender they wouldnt hesitate to drop us and not miss a beat! Just bc a lender gave you an opportunity doesnt mean you're obligated to stick by them after you've outgrown them. This is all business and we are nothing but numbers. That mentality sounds a bit personal to me.
