AMEX BCP Spending Bonus

So I just reached my $1k spending requirement and AMEX gave me my $250 statement credit in a week, which was a nice surprise.

Since I'm new to this spending bonus stuff I have a question. Amex classified the bonus as a grocery category credit. Did they just effectively screw me out of $15 (.06x250) or is that SOP for the card companies?

Did you buy $1,000 in groceries?

Your rewards should show up sometime in the next two statements.

No, it was only about $500 of groceries in a month and a couple of days. The rest was either gas or misc. 1% stuff.

They just did the same thing to me...my spend has been around 40% groceries 40% gas and 20% etc and they categorized my statement credit as groceries so it reduced my grocery spend...I have yet to actually see the rewards statement but it sure looks like I got 6% less of a bonus than I thought (kinda shady I'd say)

Nice work on the $250 btw I only got $150 didn't know the $250 was out there and I'm pretty sure Amex doesn't match bonus offers like that

Like Nixon said the rest of your bonus will post later. I had the same thing, my $250 posted. Then after my second statement cut I got the actual bonus, and it was all accounted for.

Yeah thanks, I think it was a targeted offer. I doesn't hurt to ask though.

Glad I'm not the only one regarding the credit. I'll see if I can find it in the card member agreement.

I still don't understand but I guess I'll just see on my next couple statements...I'm not gonna get too upset about $9 especially when I missed out on $100 just by not finding the best deal but I still thought it was odd

Right, I know the rewards lag for a month but the way they have it configured in the YTD charges, the groceries category is $250 short. I believe it when you say it'll all be accounted for, just seemed strange to me as a new AMEX customer.

This is because, if you guys look closely, the period that they use to calculate points is different than your billing cycle. Thats why you all did not get the correct amount of points. For example, in my april statement from march 05 to april 4,the points were totaled from march 01 to march 31.

Creditors vary so don't assume that all rewards programs are the same.

The bonus shouldn't affect your rewards but you can confirm on the following cycle's statement as it will detail how your rewards were calculated for the current cycle.

Again, look at the rewards section on the following cycle's statement -- not YTD activity.
