I know I'm just starting out and I'm planning to give my newest cards at least 6 months of good usage and payment before I consider something else but I'm curious. Does anyone happen to know average scores Lowes and Home Depot cards tend to accept? I would like to have one of their cards in the near future for all the money we tend to spend there. It seems odd to me that I'd even want one of these cards because I hated these stores as a kid, but alas 7 years ago when I became a homeowner, these two places (and Menard's too) have become my favorite stores! Any help and advice is greatly appreciated!

If you google the credit pull database, it will give you a broad range of what scores people where approved for.

My TU score was stuck at 638 forever with Synchrony, and I could get nothing...no increases or new credit. It hit 640 with them yesteday, and I was finally able to get a CLI on Walmart and the Lowes card. I used to have Home Depot (Citi), but finally gave up after 2 years at a $500 CL.

Lol, well there are days they could have my first born male son! ;-) I'm only kidding on that part, he's a pretty good kid and I'm trying to teach him money responsibility early on since he's only 6. (My parents never talked money or showed us that they were paying bills with us, I don't want to do that though).

I'm hoping to app with Lowes soon, but I want my score in the 600s before I do. I'm hoping they'll be there soon with good reports from my current cards. I've had more luck finding things at HD recently, but the guys at Lowes have been very helpful with getting heavy items for me (being 7 months pregnant they seem to bend over backward to help me) the people at HD didn't even lift a finger when I asked them to help me pick up a 5 gallon bucket of paint. Lowes is also two minutes closer to me too! :-))

According to the Credit Pulls Database, Home Depot has approvals with scores in the low 600s (600/603/606) as well as scores in the 620s and 630s. Denials seem to be related to either high utilization or too many inquiries.

Lowes is somewhat similar from the same database, with low 600s being approved. They also appear to deny more in the lower end of the 600s, looks like generally 620 and above for approvals.

With both, there are some reports of approvals sub-600, but they are FAKO scores.

Thanks everyone! I plan on waiting until I've had my current cards for at least 6 months. Next year's plan is HVAC and a kitchen remodel so I'm sure a Lowes card will come in handy then! It sounds like as long as I use my cards right I should hopefully be eligible in that amount of time.

Seems the score requirements are about the same.

But, Lowes is Syncrony (GE) and HD is Citi backed.

Lowes would be a bit easier to get approved for and most likey a higher CL.

Syncrony/GE is great with Auto CLIs and does grow quite well. So even if you were initially approved for a small toy limit, it will grow quite quickly and can get up there.

HD (Citi) will be far more sensitive especially in reagrds to recent Inquiries and Utilization.

IMHO, overall the Lowes card iis the better choice. But thats just me.

Alright, so I was relying on my CK scores, but today I pulled my scores from here, I figured it was better to pull them from here since the forum has already been so helpful to me. Right now, I am at 605 EQ and EX and 585 TU, better than what CK reported them as. Does anyone know which CR Synchrony pulls? My newest cards from CO have not hit yet (Secured card and the QS1) so I don't know if they will pull my scores down or not.

While Lowes pulls predominantly Transunion, it's not exclusive. From the Credit Pulls Database, there's also reports of Experian and Equifax being pulled. Interesting sidebar to this, when looking at historical information in the database, it appears that, sometime in 2008, Lowes switched from pulling Equifax exclusively, to pulling Transunion predominantly. Between Equifax and Experian, looks to be a tossup as to which one other than Transunion gets pulled.
