BBVA NBA Card - CLOSED without notice

I posted this in my mega approvals thread:

UH OH -- Could be another duck card?

Tried to swipe two transactions today -- DECLINED

One was small ($7), one was large ($800).

Called BBVA, transferred to their "declines" department.

She said that my account is CLOSED. And there is no reason other than "banks discresion"

So they open my $20k line, and they close it? Seriously? It worked yesterday.

She said I can either go into a branch (30 minutes away), or re-apply.

I'm not a happy camper. I've done nothing wrong or risky to make them "close" my account.

I was excited about this card. Obviously, BBVA had other plans.

I REFUSE to re-apply... I'm not concerned about hard pulls -- but I don't think that is very fair.

Maybe they'll send me a letter with a real reason? They didn't even bother to call me.

Well that is interesting to say the least. What was the first use of your CC if you don't mind me asking? Not sure what they based that "discretion" on. This doesn't bode well for starters. Sorry to hear.

I used it to pay my Cox cable bill (who accepts Amex/visa/mastercard/discover.) Was like $120.

In my defense, I didn't make everyone apply but would need to see who else gets closed by similar standards. This would establish a pattern.

Sorry to hear. That sucks. What were the transactions for that were declined and in what order were the declines?

If that kind of transaction warrants closure, I'm screwed with all of my Consumer's Energy and AT&T bills.

Definitely would like to read more, did not apply (have PLENTY of credit available to me), but do sympathize with those that thought this would be their big jump into prime w/ respectable CL's.

Thats strange... I activated my card today, a rep helped me to set up my account online and everything was fine. We will have to see why they went to this direction. I made several co-workers to apply for this card too, let see how this goes !

First off, BBVA Compass is not a credit union. And, where did you get such statistics for $75MM? This board alone did not cotribute to $75MM in credit card approvals alone. Can you provide factual data that support this? I'm assuming you went through evey thread to determine the final numbers? Even by my count, it doesn't even add to the crazy number you provided.

Can you post please as you get new info..i was almost ready to apply last night and now i am glad I didn't. On the other hand, this could just be a one off incident.

I haven't used mine yet since I went through the activation process earlier today as well and everything went without a hitch. So, out to play it goes tomorrow. I will provide feeback as well during my usage and through the next days/weeks as well. I guess if they start to get cold feet, they'll just rescind the CCs or claw back the approvals. No loss for me but it's certainly concerning given the OP's experience.

I am not sure, but my account looks fine. I haven't used it yet. I just activated today. They also sent me BT checks. I think my first purchase will be Heat Tickets and see how this goes. Three co workers were approved with the following credit limits, $15k, $14.5, $5k and $20K
