Chase Freedom Qtr 2 Bonus Points- NOT GETTING THEM ALL...?

Just looking over my Freedom activity so far this month and I'm confused about the reward points.

I thought the bonus categories were on TOP of the regular 1%, and the points are listed to appear that way.

But if you do the math, the TOTAL points are only 5% of the sale amount, not 6%. It's this way on every

bonus category transaction.

You get 5% rather than 1%, it's not 5% extra

I always thought it was a total of 5%, but the way they list it makes it appear that it SHOULD BE 1+5. I can see where the confusion comes from. I'm sure they bet on most people not doing the math. This makes it appear to be 6. I'm happy with 5.

Yes, just did a little more research (which I should've done before posting, lol) and it IS just a total of 5%. The way they list it makes it look like it should be the 5% plus the regular 1%, though.

It's 5% back period, not 5+1%. It looks as though you're getting the correct points.

I really don't think anywhere implies that it is 5% + 1%.

5% CASH BACK ON UP TO $1,500 IN COMBINED PURCHASES IN BONUS CATEGORIES EACH QUARTER*

1% UNLIMITED CASH BACK ON ALL OTHER PURCHASES

which is pretty clear IMO.

The listing is done by other 5% category cards, showing the base 1% and then a 4% bonus.

I found that in the terms when I researched further, as I said above.

However, as I also said above, I think the way it's broken down IS misleading. It doesn't say 4% and then 1%. It says "Bonus from 5% category" and then 1% underneath.

Misleading oNly if you want it to be. It doesn't say "5% bonus", it says "bonus from 5% category" which is the 4%

I never thought of it being misleading. I'm new to the card, and with everything I've read on their site and member letters, it seems quite clear it's 5%. 5% for these categories, 1% on everything else. Not sure how they could word it any differently.

The way they present it is indeed misleading. Intuitively, you would expect rewards be displayed as barclays does it, showing total points received (either 5x or 1x points), which agrees with the way they advertise it. However chase shows quarterly bonus rewards, which is 4x, in addition to the base.

Customers don't care how the bank calculates base or bonus. We only care if the total rewards for an individual transaction is calculated correctly as advertised at the end of the day.

Thank you. I do think it could be presented a little more clearly in the way it's listed underneath the transaction. That's where the original confusion came in. But I've got it now.

It is a bit misleading.. It is 5%, but when I was looking at the breakdown on my account it seemed it was 1%+5%.
