What happens when you've reached a banks internal limit due to income? Does this affect new applications aswell as CLIs?

It appears that I've reached my Citi internal limit. My recent request for a 15,000 credit limit(increase of 9,900) was countered with a 5,900 increase making the new limit-11,000. The letter stated that is all they could give due to income. I was ecstatic as I only went that high because I knew they'd counter. It's more than enough.

I had one Double Cash raised(soft pull) to 4,000(up from 2,600) last month. This month my second Double Cash was hard pulled to 11,000. 15,000 exposure with Citi between 2 cards.

Yesterday I app'd for Diamond Preferred. Approved for 500. Had to move 1,000 from Double Cash to make it 1,500.

So...will they just never allow another increase UNTIL I get my (40,000) income up? Even as years pass and my profile gets stronger? Only way is to move limits? You're eligible for Citi increases every six months...will I just keep getting denied? (I obviously know not to apply for anymore cards).

This means that if you hit your "limit" with CLI it won't necessarily mean you hit your "limit" with underwriting. Sometimes you can get stuck in a rut with CLI's and the only way is to app for a new card. It sucks (Cap One is known for this). I've been stuck on my Citi card at $700 CL for 4 years and they won't budge lol. I app'd for a new Diamond Preferred and got instand approval for 2k. It's unfortunate but it does happen. They more you grow with them, however, the easier it will become as they will establish a pattern of on time payments, PIF, etc. Also the more you run through a card the more willing they may be to an increase (although this varies wildly and is not at all scientific).

I think there are max exposure parameters when dealing with multiple products from one bank. Probably a combination of scoree, spending history, length of credit history, credit score, etc..The computer has to be coming up with the CL's when you're not working with rep's.

For example, I have a $24k TE card from AMEX, I applied for the BCP and they gave me $14k, but dropped my TE to $10.3. Odd number I always thought why keep the $300 and not make it an even $10k? So max exposure is $24.3k, for some reason the extra $300 just seemed weird to me.

Recently, I applied for the CSP. I received another interesting limit, they gave me $16.9k. I have a Freedon with a $9k CL, so I guess $25.9k is the max exposure I have with Chase, but again it's an a little out of the ordinary for a CL IMO.

Upon receiving my card and activating it, I requested an increase they denied me for the same reason. I had just received a CLI on my Simplicity card from $3800 to $7600 earlier that month.

I submitted a CLI the following month for my DC and they approved it. My limit went from $2600 to 8K. I think it's best to wait between 3-6 months before requesting CLIs.

Good luck!!! Keep up the good work!!!
