Some Visa Signature (but not all, same story with World MasterCard) cards are also Flexible Spending Credit Cards which means the lender may allow you to charge above your credit line as long as you pay the over credit balance in full by the due date.

OTOH, I know Amex will let me charge far more than those CLs so I don't use flexible spend and have always put less than the CL on the card. As a result my Amex spend exceeds by 3 fold my total spend on my other 4 cards combined and I treat flexible spend cards exactly like regular CCs and never go over my CL..

Part of the problem is that Amex lets you check an anticipated charge. The Flexible spend cards do not and I'm not about to go through a torturous phone call to CSRs. It isn't even clear to me they can find out whether a charge would be approved on a Flex card.

If the Visa Signature and Mastercard World folks want to go after Amex's high spend business they really need to get their act together and provide some clarity and easy to access services like Amex does.

I learn new things everyday on this forum. I just thought there were a few perks and that's that. Flexible spend is all new to me. Thanks guys. However, I'll be sticking to my AMEX charge for "flexible" spending.

Same as a green card with pay over time.

Seriously though, has anyone ever asked how much they could spend over their CL with a MC or Visa flex spend card? Amex revolvers are also flex spend cards that you can charge well over your CL so long as you pay the excess after the next bill. And Amex lets you check your spending ability beforehand just like on a charge card.
