Amex won't let me pay

Okay so I know CCC don't usually like you to pay multiple times throughout the month, but I thought Amex let you pay anytime you have a balance. Apparently this is not the case lol. I've got a balance on my Amex BCE and want to pay it down to 0 but it just tells me payment is not required when I click "Make Payment". I suppose I'll keep my money??? LOL

Did you just open the account? If so, AMEX only allows one outstanding payment for the first 30 days. After that, it is up to six.

You can only pay once in the first month a bankj account has been added. You can push payment from the bank though I believe

Yeah it was opened first week of April. Lol only one payment? Do you know what the reasoning is for that?

Verification purposes That's what I was told by AMEX a while ago.

You can log onto your bank account and pay it through bill pay.

Yeah that's true but it's easier just to press pay on CC website. I'll just wait until they want my money

Happened to me my first month. I just wrote them a check and sent it to the Florida bill pay address listed on the website. Once you or your au gets the first statement, any new Am Ex accounts either of you open can be paid immediately on line without waiting for the first statement.

If your balance is too high you may want to make a payment so that it won't show up on your credit report and lower your utilization/ scores for a month. I don't use bill pay so it was easier to just mail the check. It took about 6 days before it posted to my account. Am Ex reports to the bureaus promptly when the statement closes so keep that in mind.

Yeah I know but it's really trivial honestly. I just wanted to pay before the statement cut but I'll just wait until it comes now.

True. They want to make sure your payment source it a-okay! Since they credit your account as soon as you pay. After that, you can charge & pay the same day.

Correct. then after first month. you can make multiple payments per day. no problem. i think it is 5 per day after that. i make at least 6 payments per month. at least for now. as i was bringing my big balance down from 5k down to 400 now. new payment. is payoff.

They are supposed to credit the account when you pay?? I payed on my BCE and PRG already and BCE took 2 days to post payment and credit the account and PRG is still pending lol.

Because you are still new. after. it will be instant. soon as you pay. in 3 seconds the money is available.

I must say that is a nice feature and shows at least a little respect. None of my other banks/lenders do that and it can be annoying even though it's trivial. It's nice to get an idea of where your money ACTUALLY IS especially when you have multiple cards to keep up with. I wish more lenders did this.

When I pay it say allow 24-36 hours for payment to post. I don't use bill pay services on any account. I just link my checking account up to the credit card and that's it. That is why I mailed a check for my second payment the first month. Less hassle. Just write a check put it in an envelope put a stamp on it, and they will e-mail you upon receipt that they got it.

I was more cautious about charges the first 2 months. The first month I charged about $850 and paid $400 allowing that to post on my bureaus. The second month I charged about $150 and paid back $550 in 2 payments over 2 weeks then let a 0 balance post. I have the TE card. I waited to go to Costco until my new statement had cut so I could have a 0 balance and my best credit score before going for the 3x cli which I got.

This is so true. I have gotten so spoiled by Amex. I love the fact that they credit immediately (not needed, but appreciated). I looooove the fact that I can pay whatever I want, too - whenever I want. So many companies make you wait until a balance posts, which can be inconvenient, and they will not let you pay more than you owe (yet). Especially inconvenient when you want UTL to report a certain way. I really love the way Amex handles things, and I am sure you will too, after the first month. I still get annoyed when I cannot pay another company an outstanding balance, because it has not posted.

weird never had this issue when I was new with amex as I pay whenever I see even a 10 dollar balance.. Anyways guess YMMV type of things whom they pick on. I think my frist month I had my first Amex Delta maybe did 4-6 payments? Probably times where I have had my ED card where I have done 4-8 payments a month, not pushing them either just using their service.. I could by wrong on >6, but I probably have done more? Ya just looked and before my statement cuts I will probably do 3-4 more payments on their site, they don't limit you two 6 already have 6 within a few week period of time.. See screen attachment

Edit: saw after the 2nd post saying only 6 per month people stated otherwise so picture is irrelevant, but will leave it cause i took the time to screenshot it .. Ya never had the first month issue though either.. Strange

Agreed... I think it is different for everyone. I never had a problem myself.
