Replacing my Venture One with CSP

Going to use my new CSP as my general travel spend card and pay off my VentureOne and sock drawer it. It did what its supposed to do

Ok with all due respect how many times are you going to "switch" cards? I think a few days ago you were telling everyone Venture One was your main card.

You are allowed to do whatever you want but I thought you said your spend was low (something like $500 a month). As we all told you when you said that, an AF card makes basically no sense in this situation. You have to do what you feel is best, but by the sounds of your spend, a CSP won't be something you can justify. After year one, you have to spend a lot to make it make sense, and it doesn't seem like your spend is there.

It seems to me like you are simply going by whatever is popular and not doing thorough research into cards before applying. You have mentioned opening and closing many cards. Credit is not a game and instead of relying on what is popular on here, you need to do what's best for you. A CSP makes no sense for some people, and others love it.

Good luck with the CSP and hopefully I'm wrong and it actually will work well for you.

+1 I definantly will not get a CSP. what the hell. 4k spend in 3 months just to get the bonus. no way. i would have to sock drawer every other single card just to make it. even though my credit card spend is about 2500 per month. but i don't want that much on a single card. with balances on others.

Yeah I know that was cuz I thought I'd be stuck with the venture and would never get the CSP. Now that I have it I'm gonna use it. More points. And an annual fee is an annual fee. I don't see what the obsession is to "justify" it at this point. I know it has an AF and I'm gonna pay it. The Venture gives less points than the CSP and the CSP has transfer partners. That's really all there is to it but thanks for your input :-)

And spend changes. Like I said the $500 figure was just an example. And who knows what it will be next year or 3 months from now.

But to get the bonus on. That csp. You have to make it primary right now. Too bad they made it 4k in 3 months. That is crazy. But a lot of points. Worth it.

There's no obsession with "justifying it". If your spend does not give you enough rewards to outearn the annual fee, you are losing money in rewards. But I will not beat a dead horse because I don't think you quite understand what anyone is saying when they say that.

So you obtained a relatively expensive AF card in the hopes your spend will increase in the future?

"Relatively" expensive is the key word because expensive to one isn't expensive to another. To me a high AF is $450 and I wouldn't dare. But $95 isn't anything to cry home about

I dont think the AF amount is the issue. What I believe these knowledgeable members are trying to get across is it makes no sense to have a card with an AF if your regular spend (key word: regular) would not provide you with enough rewards that exceed the AF.

At least thats how it seems. Im too lazy to go back through other threads and try to untangle the rest of this story

Just my 2 cents here but if you are looking for comparable products....why not go with a regular Venture because you have history with Cap1. IMO it makes more sense if you go with CSP then you should pair it with Freedom. If you are going to push your spend beyond what is normally your comfort zone then that can get dangerous quickly and if you carry a balance on CSP then that will negate alot of the benefit of the bonus....

Well we all have different cards for different reasons so we do what works for the individual. Trust me a lot of thought and planning is put into what cards I utilize and for what. You guys just don't know of it :-)

I considered that but I'd rather not deal with Capital One beyond the one card I have.

Ultimately, you are going to do whatever works best for you and while others may disagree or do things differently thats the beauty of this forum. You have alot of experience and knowledgeable folks on here that can give you some food for thought!! Take advantage of the opinions to whatever degree you chose...Good luck with whatever you decide!!
