Yes, some people in Chase matketing might know. But almost certainly no-one here. Presumably Chase does it when they see a need to drive more new users.

Just my usual PSA: Can you use the Freedom a lot in the next two quarters? If your best card is a 1.5%, and you are able to max out the categories, getting it now more than makes up for the extra $100. Sign up bonuses are only part of the value of the card, particularly when the bonus increase here is relatively small and the card has a lot of earning potential.

Definitely makes sense. I am waiting specifically for the bonus because I'm looking to book a week at Hyatt in Hong Kong.

In 2014 they did it twice, once around end of May/early June and again in November.

DW got her card in June, I got mine in November.

And in 2012, there was a $300 bonus (see http://millionmilesecrets.com/2012/01/25/300-30000-points-chase-freedom-targeted-75000-points-chase-sapphire-preferred/) so really past history isn't a guide to the future.

The 5% wouldn't do much for me this quarter because I already have the Discover IT which I wont max out.. I suppose I may re-evaluate next quarter, but for now I'm holding out on the promotional bonus...

I apped for this card on 3/31/15 and got the $100 bonus within the first month and paid it right off. I asked last night if they would honor the $200 bonus so this afternoon they added the extra $100. Sweet.
