Delta is a joke maybe Amex will go for United's business?

Delta has apparently blacked out 30% of the year for korean airlines from award redemptions. This is just one of many moves by Delta to really make it a lousy program. I know within the next few years the chase/united deal will be up for renegotiation. Does anyone think that Amex may want to go after united's business, especially in light of some of their recent high profile partner losses?

well i don't know how that would be possible with chase's grip on United with their United cards and their partnership with UR system.

Its very simple. United says, "hey chase I don't want to renew with you". Chase doesn't own united. That being said Chase would probably throw a lot of money at United and could probably outbid most competitors if they wanted to.

I dont think Chase need to offer United much. They would probably not go for Amex anyway. Too high of a fee charged. Btw, i book my flight with KE just fine. KE and AF are the reasons i stock Skymile

I think its possible Amex might throw in a bid for United, but i dont think Chase will lose that easily. Also i thought i read online that Chase is the largest bank in the U.S with like 2 Trillion in Assets.

However i guess none of us will ever know until something happens or changes.

Doubtful it's that simple. Sure, business is business but I don't think you have in-depth knowledge of the Chase/United partnership that dates for quite sometime. And, it's not that Chase "owns" United, they've pretty much had a primary business relationship with them by managing their affinity programs. Now, if United is unhappy about the relationship, sure... but, again doubtful. An item to keep in mind, United also enjoys a secondary/dual relationship (personal and business CCs) with First Hawaiian Bank and I would highly doubt United will join the AMEX ranks in the foreseeable future. Trust me, Chase doesn't have to "throw a lot of money" at them to keep the partnership.

It's highly unlikely. Plus, AMEX and Delta have a long standing relationship. AMEX actually provided DL with capital during its bankruptcy.

Also, as it pertains to inventory availability - this is more than likely a move by Korean, not Delta. Korean more than likely expects a lot of demand for the period that you are traveling and as such is restricting the availability of award travel.

Lastly, this issue is not specific to Delta/Korean. All airlines will restrict award travel during peak periods. Airlines prefer award travel during off-peak or shoulder periods when demand for air travel is low.

And personally - I am not a fan of United. Delta offers a much more superior product.

While Delta is superior to United as an airline, Deltas miles are not. Delta miles have been significantly devalued, while Uniteds haven't. In addition, Star Alliance is larger than Sky Team. Definitely prefer Delta for domestic flights, but United is a better alternative for the average flyer.

My understanding is that it is a move by Delta not Korean. Korean has a system in place where during a busy time they simply charge more for redemptions. Also, korean will break down peak travel season by regioins whereas Delta is blacking out all availability for all regions even if its only peak time in one part of the world. Delta has done this with two other travel partners recently as well.

I suppose it all boils down to your personal experience. I simply dislike United because I am always stuck on a regional jet that is almost always delayed. And too, I should add--If you look at most airlne customer satisfaction surveys - United is ranked consistenly at the bottom.

I had status on united last year so it got me upgraded to first on one flight and let me pick extra leg room seats on others. My delta flight wasn't as nice. Granted I don't find any of the US carriers to be all that stellar. Regional flights can always fluctuate and fortunatly I haven't had to deal with any of those recently.

Maybe it's a regional thing. Delta's product in MI, when I've flown, is inferior to American's offerings, and Delta has lost my luggage last 3 flights in a row. Other people will tell me they wouldn't fly anyone other than Delta, and have stories about AA, UA, etc..

It depends how many seats Delta purchased of Korean Air inventory. At some point it is cheaper for Delta to fly people on their own metal. American always routes me on Hawaiian Air for anything Business class to Australia. Delta had some good awards for Tokyo in October but it was to the wrong airport. With any airline card it's best to be flexible.

Call me crazy, but I'm still stoked on Delta.

Yeah, just yeah. I was visiting a grad school on of the times, and Delta DID reimburse me for some slacks and a dress shirt to be fair, but still, it was rediculous that it's happened that many times.
