Bank of America Account Restricted

Hi everyone!

I tried to use my Alaska Airlines Visa Signature but was declined at checkout. I called into the automated system and it said "this account is closed." When I go online, it doesn't mention this. I did online chat, and was told my Merrill + and Alaska card are "restricted" and to call 866-297-9257. Is this the BofA version of a FR?

I am really not in the mood for an AA from BofA. Although I have quite a few inquiries (mostly car lease and business CC related), I only have 3 new accounts and a spotless payment history.

I'm sure this isn't out of the blue. I've had all of these cards for quite a while, but I recently tried to order sunglasses using this card, and they attempted to process the card six times.

I have a fairly substantial income and average util. What do you think they will want?

I'd call back and speak with a supervisor. If it is a FR, they will request proof of income. So call back...

Here's the thing-- they tried to charge my card though their Authorize.net account, which I later discovered was in test mode. They tried to charge afterwards, and then my card was declined. Not a coincidence.

How many inquiries do you have on your reports?

Not sure. Probably a lot total. Probably around 10 recent inquiries on each report because of a business LOC rate shopping, leasing a new car, switiching business bank accounts.

I think it is just fraud related. If somebody tries to process your card 6 times, that is definitely a fraud related task in their eyes.

Why would they restrict two of my four cards? My Cash Rewards card hasn't been impacted-- probably because I only use it to purchase gas and groceries and PIF. I don't think this is credit related, they just gave me an auto CLI.

Sorry, but IMO the ONLY thing to do is to call. You have well-meaning (probably!) people here doing their best to guess, but that is worth absolutely nothing. In the time it takes to post and read, you could have got the actual scoop.

UPDATE

I called and they said they closed my card because I have "sufficient credit and debt available." Why out of the blue did they close my card. She claims my balances are too high. **bleep**

How many cards (Alaska, Merrill, others?) Have you checked your CR very recently to see if there are errors causing this?

Closed Cash Rewards, Alaska, Merrill, and Alaska Business. Credit report is error free. They are quoting a 65k income I reported to them in 2005! My income has been documented as much higher in their system. This is crazy

I am so sorry to hear. This is truly upsetting. This also shows it is NOT just Chase that closes accounts as people are led to believe as any bank can take AA. If it is a card you use often, I'd reach out ot their EO to see if there is any chance it can be open.

I charge around 25k a month and PIF. I took a 20k direct deposit from them and put it in my Roth IRA. I have a strong feeling that they profiled me based on the unusual charges, but have to deny it because it is illegal.

Sounds like fraud. I had the same thing happen to me. Account closed no warning.

Called them and said a new card was shipped out.
