PenFed Platinum Rewards Visa Signature Card Cancelled.

So i just wanted to let everyone know that i just got a PenFed card and apparently the fraud department like to check this forum because The PenFed Fraud Department called me and asked me why i was apply for other credit cards and started naming off cards i havent even applied for yet and said that Im doing a App Spree and he knows what im up to and that I come on here and share all my little secrets with all the other sheep that are on here. So Im just letting everyone know whats going on with this i had a $5,000 Penfed Platinum Rewards Card and now its cancelled because they said I am pyramiding because of all the credit cards i was going to apply for in my app spree. Then he had the nerve to say that hes in the fraud department and he has connections at all the other banks i applied at and he is going to reach out to them in order to tell them that I am on a app spree. So everyone beware.

This makes absolutely no sense. If they don't like a bunch of new accounts, that's one thing, but to call you out on something you haven't even done yet is not something they can do.

Thats just....wahoo...I have an auto loan with them. I won't hesitate to move my business somewhere else if someone from their office ever calls me and speaks to me with a negative tone. They don't expect you to only have their card.

This has got to be the most absolutely absurd thing I have heard of a lender doing. Don't get me wrong I know they all have spies here. But to CALL YOU OUT on posts you made here and CANCEL your account because of it is insane!!!!!

I agree with Membersince2013. By privacy policies that govern each institution, they wouldn't be able to just "name drop" activities with your other lenders. A credit analyst at the underwriting level can discuss information on your credit file when permissible purpose and disclosure is acknowledged.

Sorry, this smells pretty fishy. At best, any potential fraud scenarios simply will close the account and notify you of such adverse action in writing. They wouldn't just sit there and tell you "Mr Jonbuck06, we've been watching you from day one on the myFICO forums and your potential app spree caught our eye and so we're closing your account and telling the credit world about you!"

The whole story reeks nonsense IMO.

Well, pyramiding (for Penfed) IS exactly opening new accounts. But I would expect a fraud department to wait until at least the inquiries appeared, otherwise they are being VERY proactive.

I mean, I frequent these boards just as any and clearly my PenFed posts are out there for the world to see. And, I was approved without this "mysterious" fraud department contacting me about malarkey such as this.

Idk how they put it together but the guys knew and i did file complaint with a supervisior. I'm just warning everyone about what happened but they called me from 541-345-3611. Maybe its because of my fraud alert but i got the one $5k and then apped for another card and thats when all this happened. I know some people dont think i tell the truth all the time but seriously this happened and idk. How it happened was he asked me why I was applying for a whole bunch accounts and I told him i was trying to refinance a auto loan. he said you applied at NASA and NFCU and Virgin Atlantic and Sun Country Visa and he was just saying all there things. I'm not lying to you guys but if you think I am thats fine but like i said i put it on my moms life that im telling the truth and tbh if you search my User ID you can find out exactly.

Exactly...But OP, if you can document this event, it's enough to sue Penfed for breaching confidentiality.

Well, swearing on your mother's life (near Mother's Day!) seems a little extreme (what's she done to you?) but OK. But had you applied to the places listed, or had you just said here that you were planning to?
