Congrats on your two approvals! You have 4 cards so you did good.

Capital One won't close the card quickly, but be sure to buy a stick of gum on it every 3 months or so. It's fairly easy to upgrade Platinum cards to Quicksilvers via chat. This way you have two of them. No need to rotate the card. Just as long as others are 0 and 1 is <9% at statement cut. Also, this is just if you choose to micromanage...mainly for new apps(which you won't be doing). I still try to micomanage while in the Garden because I like my scores in one place(higher up).

Hi,

I just started rebuilding this past year with a CapOne MC. My FAKO score is 603 with transunion via CapOne credittracker. Up to $1300 CLI on my card, but there are no rewards and the 0% APR has run out. I paid off almost all of the balance, just left a little bit to show usage. Waited until the statement hit, when I planned on applying for the Barclaycard, but recieved an email today from CapOne saying I'm pre-approved for a Quicksilver Visa card with 1.5% cash back and 0% APR for around 10 months. Neither card has an AF.

The barclaycard looks to give a FICO score each month, but then I have to use points, something I've never done before. Are the points applicable towards the balance?

Where does barclay report to? I think CapOne is transunion only, but not sure.

What would you pick?

On mine Barclay is TU as well as Cap One. But don't go by Cap One's credit tracker. It's way off from my true scores. Never really use it. Barclay's is better.

What's your opinion on the barclay rewards points? I can't access the store as I am not a current cardholder.

Is it worth getting a barclaycard this early in my credit rebuild simply for the FICO score free? I don't spend enough to really use 2 rewards cards.

-Baclays 1,000 = $10 or 100 = $1. You can redeem towards a statement credit. Both Cap1 and Barclays update rewards as soon as charges are posted.

-Barclays reports to all 3 bureaus as does Cap1. Barclays is a TU puller for applications. Cap1 pulls all 3.

-Barclays gives a TU fico. Cap1 gives an TU fako

-I'd get both cards

* Barclays likes to see 6 months to a year of history.

How long have you been rebuilding? If you've got a year under your belt, I'd say try for both. Both are great cards to have. Only reason I was denied for Barclay was I only had six months under my belt lol

Been rebuilding since July 2014.

I went ahead and applied for both. Got the CapOne with a $3000 CL.

What is the min redemption on the Barclays one? (Had it too long ago to remember). If you don't spend a lot, the QS, with no min, might be easier to use.

I think it also depends on how your rebuilding is going. At some point, you will want to replace the Barclays with a 2% everywhere card like Citi Double Cash.

My personal feeling is it's best to stay away from store cards, too easy for them to go inactive if you don't buy something from that particular store.

You're off to a good start, now just chill for awhile, keeping your reported balance low on your Cap One card.

Don't reapply to Barclays until your previous application falls off their 'application status' page, which will be from 3 to 4 months.

A lot of apps and a lot of new inquiries will hurt you.

That's the sallie mae upromise card correct? Does it also give you a TU FICO?

My loans are now with Navient, but I stll get this offer when I log in. Are approval requirements different for the Sallie card vs other barclaycards? Does my good pay history on my student loans affect my approval for that card? Since I just got denied the barclay rewards is the Sallie card out of the picture for now?

What about walmart, should I apply for that one considering I was just denied a Lowe's and Barclay Rewards? I don't shop at Walmart a ton, but still buy something or other at least once a month out of convenience and I could keep activity on it easily.

-Yes, it gives me my Fico too.
-I would assume the offer is a preapproval and likely golden(but you were denied Rewards so hard one.)
-I believe the consensus is that Sallie is harder to get than Rewards.
-Try again in 6 months. You should get instantly approved since only reason for denial was short history.
-Doesn't sound like you have much use for a Walmart card. Do you just want the free Fico? Go for a Discover instead. Same fico and 1% on purchases with 5% in categories.

Yea I pretty much just want the free FICO.

I thought Discover's were pretty hard to get? I thought I would have to wait until I was closer to 700 or better before getting a Discover.
