I have read some posts from people who added their kids to the cards and Amex gave them a good starting limit (3-5k) without having any own cards.

Most of the posts show that Chase will not count AUs and don't want to be the first to give you a card, I think Barclay also.

So, from what I read, if the Amex you are AU is in good standing (limit, payments, util), you will have a better chance than if you are not AU or have other cards. Of course, with credit, it is always ymmv.

Hey everyone been a member for less then a year. My credit has come a long way since i joined my fico. I have been a au on my father amex credit card for about 2 yrs now. My question is being a AU on his amex will it help my chances at all to get my own amex? will amex see that i am a au already and take that into consideration when determing if i get approved? Any input would be great.

Do you have the card linked on line with your own password. They track the spending per card. What type of card are you on. Give us a list of all your cards with limits and opening dates.

What is the credit limit on the AmEx if it is revolving? How about the balance. Your dads card is part of your online profile.

I was in your shoes six months ago. Honestly, I think you may have better luck getting another CC. Up until February the only thing I had on my credit file was AU of my DH Amex, Ann Taylor, and Credit One card. I have an old closed Cap One/NM card with some late pays from 5+ years ago. I applied and got accepted for Chase, BoA and US Bank. They all gave me pre-qualified offers and strong SLs. Amex nothing, Amex is also very picky about income too. I would check Chase's pre-qualified site.

My DW cards were all au's including an au on my Costco AmEx. She got a prescreened PRG app and that card and the ED were the FIRST cards approved in her name.
