Hey Gang, My Plum Card from Amex arrived today, so I figured I would share the experience.

It appears as though their customer service for this card is excellent. I had a pleasant conversation with the rep who activated the card. She asked me several questions about my business and how much I anticipated in charging. I told her probably less than $5,000 my first month. She actually encouraged me to charge way more than that! They push the 2% cash back feature hard. They also encourage you to switch all your business expenses to them. Although she didn't disclose a limit, she made it clear that the card has a very high line of credit. That was an important feature I was seeking in a business card. I'm a sucker for world class service so we'll see how they continue to do.

I also have the personal Green Rewards card. So far, I'm very pleased with Amex's customer service. I know that some of you may not have the same opinion as me, though!

In any event, I owe my higher credit scores and recent approvals to this forum. I had OK credit when I first got started here, now today I have obtained approvals for all the prime cards I was seeking. This forum is invaluable!!! This is the final add to my credit profile. No more cc apps for at least 2 more years!

Congrats on your approval.

I've been eying the Plum Card for a couple months now. But for me, my American Express Costco TrueEarnings Business card has better rewards since I do not spend (put myself at the mercy of American Express) over $5000 per month with Amex.

Uncle Money,

Is this one of those "professional" cards that you can apply for using your SSN as a tax id, even if you aren't a business owner?

I easily run more than $5k/month through my primary card in personal expenses, so getting 2% back just for paying my bill on time seems like a pretty sweet deal.

You need a business- even if it's a sole prop.

Setting up a small biz is very easy and does not cost much.

This isn't a professional card, like Citi offers. I have that one too. You actually need to provide your Tax ID # and answer some questions about your biz like annual revenue, years in operation, etc. You will have to personally guarantee it though, like all Amex cards. However, I was told this will not report on my personal CR.

The real benefits kick in when you charge more than 5K within a month. That's when you get the 2% cash back. Anything less than 5K, you get 1%. Still, not a bad deal. To answer your question though, yes you need to be a business owner. Since it is personally guaranteed, you may be able to get one even if you just started a biz. Not sure though because they do ask how long you have been in biz. I have had my corporation for 4 years.
