What is your defination of Prime? Because prime means different things to different people. For example, people consider Credit One prime. So what is prime in your opinion?

PenFed is a notoriously picky lender.

What is your end goal here? Are you just apply to apply? Why PenFed? If you are going after a particular card, particular signup bonus, or particular rewards, then let us know. As it stands, your question is fairly open-ended, and even if we could answer it, I don't know that's it's actually the answer that serves you best.

You would generate less confusion/discussion with a better chosen subject! Apparently the question is "Which PenFed card is the easiest to get" you are not really interested in listing in order of primeness, whatever that would mean.

Here we go again. Didn't we have the same topic but with Citi cards recently?

It's just my opinion, but what does the "prime" thing matter? Who cares? Apply for cards you find useful with APR/reward structures/whatever floats your boat. As long as YOU are happy with it, that's all that matters. If someone else doesn't feel it is "prime" then what does it matter?

Focus more on what will benefit you and less on arbitrary terms like "prime". Just like "good, better, best" cards, "prime" cards is a totally subjective thing.

Junior: are you already a Penfed member? If not, they will hard pull you for membership (which is required before you can have one of their cards). If approved for membership, you can apply for other products within 90 days usually and they will reuse that original hard pull. I'd get my foot in the door as a member, then apply for whichever card you want or find most useful.

Penfed used to be known to deny based on pyramiding debts, which is a fancy way of saying too many new accounts. For years they were known to be more generous with established, clean reports. So as others have said, even with a 790 Fico they didn't like my new accounts enough to give me a card (but they did approve membership).

If you really want one of their cards, you need to take the hard pull for membership regardless, but for the best chance get your reports clean first so when the membership is approved, they can also approve a card. Otherwise you'll have to wait for the 90 day window to pass and take an additional hard pull.

Pen fed declining people in the 800's and high 700's is not unusual . They also ask for pay stubs or 2 years w2's and employment verification in most cases . They are a pain in the butt . The easiest card to get is probably the promise . You better have all your paper work ready cuz they will ask for them 7/10 times .
