not using macy's store card but still get the macy's 20% off?

I have always thought that in order to get an extra 20% (sometimes 15% or 25%) off for some items, I must use macy's card to checkout and the cashier can apply the coupon..

The other day I went there and purchased a dress. At first I forgot about this, so I used my regular FIA card checkout. And then left to the other stores in the mall. Later on before I left, I thought of it, so i went to the macy's to those machine's to check the price, it showed that if purchase with macy's card, could saved another $xx, so I went to the registery and said that i wanna do a return and rebuy because I just realize macy's card could save me some money..

So the cashier did it.. interesting though.. at the end, she said that the $xx amount would be back to your Amex (Fidelity amex).. MMMM.. I did have to swipe the macys' card in order for her to apply the coupon, but the charge is on my fiedlity amex..

Anyone had this experience? Is it like I don't have to use macy's card to check out anymore to get this discount? I don't quite understand this.. lol but I was happy..

same thing happened to me when i went to buy a suit for a last minute wedding invintation. got the discount for no understanding reason. i dont even have a macys card whats funny is for the first time i was not even asked if i wanted to apply. so just stayed quite and paied. weird because the receipt showed the discount for card memebers. i was lucky i guess. JCP does the same thing to sometimes.

Another option is to have the cashier ring up the total with the discounts. Let's say it's $103.57. All you have to do is buy a gift card for that amount with any card and you're good to go. Discount will still be applied. I just shopped there yesterday and it was 20% off with a Macy's card OR wowpass.

This is not surprising . many Cashiers will give you the Discount no matter what. just like sticking it to the man. but not always. so if you shop there a lot. Its just best to have the card. just in case.
