silver gets WEMC benefits, 3x on AA, 2x on hotels and rental cars.

5k eqms per 20k spent up to 10k eqm

$99 companion certificate once you spend 30k.

What does the 10K EQM give you? Status on AA. I will easily meet the 40K spend to get the 10K EQM. Would that make the annual fee worthwhile?

I will probably travel on American 3 to 4 times over the next year with most of those being award tickets.

Im not that familiar with EQM and status benefits.

The only real benefit im interested in attaining in regards to status is better availablity on business/first award tickets.

10k eqm will get you a bit less than halfway to gold status, which requires 25k EQM.

you could alternatively do a status challenge which requires 5k POINTS in 90 days for gold, or 10k for platinum. be aware those are points not miles.

You need 25k EQM to hit Gold with AA....and Gold doesn't really give you anything above what the Red already gave you. And you're using award tickets - making the mileage earning bonus of the status and the 3x AA pretty much moot...

And I doubt Gold will get you upgraded very often if you're flying semi frequent paths.

you call up and ask for a status challenge. this time of year it will cost you $140 for gold or $240 for platinum. they're about points, not miles. deep discount fares get you half a point per mile flown. discount fares get you 1 mile, business and first are 1.5 or 2,i don't remember off the top of my head.

gold status will get you free exit row seats and complimentary upgrades (but you're essentially bottom rung under Plat, and exec plat) on flights less than 500 miles, and will allow you to buy 500 mile upgrade stickers for 30$ a piece to pay for an upgrade. you'll also get 4 free 500 mile stickers and then earn more free ones for every 10k miles flown.

award tickets earn you nothing and won't count towards status.

Gotcha. Yeah, you mentioned a price to join the status challenge. The ones I saw didn't have a price, just had to prove you were Delta/United/whatever elite and then they would enroll you.

Still doesn't make sense sense I don't travel on paid tickets on AA that would get me that many EQPs.

My Miami, Washington D.C., and my St. Louis (paid, not award) tickets came to less than $500....R/T .... on AA. I'd never hit 5k EQPS lol

I have a flight to Germany coming up. deep discount (o fare) but would get me like 4980 points. but I doubt I'd have another flight in time to make up for it.

the challenges starting after June 16th 2015 give status until Feb 2017 which is dope.

How long did you have your aviator red card before the upgrade to silver? How much spend have you put on the red? I am trying to figure out of there is a duration period or spend requirement in order to qualify for the upgrade.

I totally agree. Gold status doesn't go far with AA, but if that's what you're after even with the AF hike it's cheaper than the $600 AA offered me the status upgrade directly.

I just called and tried to upgrade mine. No dice. Been putting as much spend as the CL allows on it every month, I guess Barclays just doesn't like something.

I was able to upgrade and haven't really put that much spend on it since the initial bonus spend. Their criteria for upgrade eligibility has to be based on some other factor.
